Job summary

Intact Insurance Specialty Solutions is seeking a hands-on Technical Lead for API and integration development in its Canton, MA; Boston, MA; Farmington, CT; or Raleigh, NC offices on a hybrid schedule.

You will lead RESTful API design with Java Spring Boot, architect cloud-native integrations using Azure Service Bus, Kafka, and Event Hub, and guide a small team while remaining involved in coding and design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 9+ years of Java development with Spring Boot.
• 2+ years in technical leadership or team lead roles.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design and OpenAPI/Swagger.
• Experience with Azure cloud services (App Services, API Management, Event Hub, Service Bus).
• Hands-on experience with Kafka, MQ, and other messaging/integration platforms.
• Proficiency in Terraform for IaC.
• Familiarity with Auth0 or similar IAM solutions.
• Solid secure coding practices and application security.
• Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, mentoring teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of RESTful APIs using Java Spring Boot.
• Architect and implement integration solutions using Azure Service Bus, Kafka, Event Hub, and MQ.
• Enforce secure coding practices, authentication/authorization, encryption, and secure error handling.
• Guide the team on delivery models like shared libraries, microservices, and discrete deployables.
• Develop and maintain Terraform scripts for Azure provisioning.
• Lead and mentor a small team of developers while coding and reviewing.
• Collaborate with DevOps and Cloud Engineering to deploy containerized apps with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Implement authentication flows using Auth0 and other identity providers.
• Promote CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.

The opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for a Technical Lead – API and Integration Development to join our Corporate IT team based in our Canton, MA; Boston, MA; Farmington, CT or Raleigh, NC offices on a hybrid schedule. We are seeking a technically strong and hands‑on Technical Lead to drive the development of APIs and integration solutions across our enterprise platforms. This role combines leadership, architecture, and development responsibilities, with a focus on Java Spring Boot, cloud‑native deployments, and secure, scalable integration patterns. You’ll lead a small team while remaining actively involved in coding and solution design, leveraging technologies such as Auth0, Microsoft Azure, Kafka, Event Hub, Service Bus, and Terraform. Some of the Technical Lead – API and Integration Development responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Lead the design and development of RESTful APIs usingJava Spring Boot, ensuring adherence toREST principles,OpenAPI standards, andversioning strategies.
• Architect and implement integration solutions usingAzure Service Bus,Kafka,Event Hub, andMQ technologies.
• Apply and enforcesecure coding practices, including input validation, authentication/authorization, encryption, and secure error handling.
• Guide the team in evaluating and implementing delivery models such asshared libraries,microservices, anddiscrete deployables.
• Develop and maintainTerraform scriptsfor infrastructure provisioning and automation inMicrosoft Azure.
• Lead and mentor a small team of developers, fostering a collaborative and growth‑oriented environment.
• Stay hands‑on with development, code reviews, and troubleshooting while supporting team members in their technical and professional growth.
• Collaborate with DevOps and Cloud Engineering teams to deploy and manage containerized applications usingDockerandKubernetes.
• Implement authentication and authorization flows usingAuth0and other identity providers.
• Promote agile development practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.

The expertise you bring

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 9+ years of experience inJava development, with strong proficiency inSpring Boot.
• 2+ years of experience in atechnical leadershiporteam leadrole.
• Strong understanding ofRESTful API design,OpenAPI/Swagger, andAPI versioning.
• Experience withAzure cloud services, includingApp Services,API Management,Event Hub, andService Bus.
• Hands‑on experience withKafka,MQ, and other messaging/integration platforms.
• Proficiency inTerraformfor infrastructure as code (IaC).
• Familiarity withAuth0or similar identity and access management solutions.

Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires; however, your recruiter will provide more specific compensation details during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $124,000 - $164,000, based on the factors aforementioned. For candidates located in San Francisco, CA; Washington DC; our Massachusetts based offices and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $144,000 - $169,000. In addition to base salary, full time Intact employees are also eligible for bonus potential and a full range of benefits to include but not limited to:
