Job summary

Capital Technology Group in Washington, DC is seeking a Technical Lead to guide the design, development, and modernization of mission-critical federal software systems. This senior engineer will champion backend architecture, systems thinking, and scalable, secure applications across complex enterprise environments.

You will mentor engineers, lead architecture discussions, and partner with product, DevSecOps, and infrastructure teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet federal requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• 9+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, GraphQL, and REST APIs.
• Experience designing distributed systems and scalable enterprise apps.
• Cloud-native development on AWS or Azure; CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps.
• Security-minded with API and application security practices.

About the Role

Technical Lead

to support the design, development, and modernization of mission-critical federal software systems. This role is ideal for a senior engineering leader who brings strong backend architecture expertise, systems thinking, and the ability to lead scalable, secure application development across complex enterprise environments.

You Will Get To

• Lead design, development, and modernization of enterprise software systems supporting federal mission needsDrive engineering efforts across the full software development lifecycle, from architecture through deploymentBuild scalable, secure, and maintainable backend applications using modern engineering best practicesArchitect and develop APIs using REST and GraphQLLead system design discussions, architecture reviews, and technical decision-makingPartner with product, architecture, DevSecOps, and infrastructure teams to deliver integrated technical solutionsTroubleshoot complex application, integration, and system performance issuesContribute to cloud modernization, application refactoring, and platform engineering improvementsMentor junior and mid-level engineers while establishing engineering standards and best practicesSupport secure software delivery, code quality, testing automation, and CI/CD pipeline integrationTranslate business and mission requirements into technical implementation strategies

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)9+ years of professional experience
• in software engineering experience, including enterprise application developmentStrong hands-on experience with
• Java, Spring Boot, OpenJDK, GraphQL, and REST APIsExperience designing distributed systems, microservices, integrations, and scalable enterprise applicationsStrong understanding of software architecture, system design, design patterns, and engineering best practicesExperience building cloud-native applications in
• AWS or AzureExperience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, source control, and DevSecOps workflowsKnowledge of secure software development principles, API security, and application security best practicesExperience troubleshooting production systems, performance tuning, and operational supportStrong communication and technical leadership skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), event-driven architecture, or serverless platformsFamiliarity with Zero Trust principles and secure systems integrationExperience supporting federal government agencies

Salary

We are committed to offering a competitive salary for this position, with an estimated range of

$120k–$170k annually
