Job summary

OhioHealth is seeking a Phlebotomy/Laboratory Technician to perform phlebotomy and routine lab tasks across campus. The role emphasizes patient and clinician interaction, safety, and accuracy in specimen processing.

The candidate will engage in phone communications, contribute to service recovery when needed, and support various LIS/e-Source computer tasks while upholding regulatory standards. Evening shift with 40 hours weekly is typical.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• 6 months to 1 year experience in phlebotomy and/or specimen processing.
• Active driver’s license and car insurance required for associates in skilled nursing facilities.

Responsibilities

• 70% phlebotomy and/or specimen processing as location requires.
• Adhere to safety and infection control practices.

Job Description Summary

The TLA demonstrates the ability to perform phlebotomy and a variety of technical and clerical functions in the Laboratory based on the needs of the individual campus. He/she performs routine laboratory procedures based on principles of human growth and development according to established lab guidelines using customer focus, teamwork, adaptability to change, problem solving, communication and personal excellence. Position handles blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid and other body fluids. Specimens may be contaminated with infectious diseases including HIV and other blood borne pathogens.

Responsibilities And Duties

70% Phlebotomy and/or specimen processing depending on job location. Adherence to Safety and Infection Control practices. Customer service to clinicians and clients. Must be comfortable and professional on the telephone, able to communicate with physician office staff and clinical staff, and laboratory associates. Must be able to communicate with patients and their families, and use service recovery where necessary. 15% Associated computer related tasks (i.e. LIS, e-Source) 5% Training new employees and students 5% Adherence to regulatory compliance including National Patient Safety Goals, CAP, OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, OSH and Laboratory Policies and Procedures. 5% Maintaining competencies, mandatory required education (ACE). Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned. As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require focus on safety, quality and efficiency in performing job duties.
