Job summary

American Packaging Corporation (APC) invites applications for a packaging intern. The role focuses on assisting technical staff in testing physical properties of flexible packaging for new development and production.

You will support lab activities, data collection, and reporting in a collaborative environment at APC’s Rochester facility. The position requires pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Science, familiarity with lab equipment, and strong Excel skills.

LOCATION: Rochester, NY

SUMMARY: The primary focus of the intern will be to assist the technical staff testing physical properties of flexible packaging, both for new development and production.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work in the Corporate lab gathering data such as bond strength, seal strength, tensile strength, moisture/oxygen barrier, sustainability, and other material testing.
  • Tasked with project work and analysis of the data they collect.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science.

Experience with lab equipment such as tensile tester, heat sealer, etc.

Experience with Microsoft Excel

Ability to gather data competently into a report format

Statistical Experience is optional

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
