Job summary

Jobtailor in Arlington, VA is seeking a Senior Linux Systems Administrator to oversee Red Hat Enterprise Linux across development, lab, and production environments. You will drive large-scale configuration management using Ansible and maintain the Ansible Automation Platform, while administering Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Cloud for monitoring and security analytics.

You will implement STIG-based security controls, manage access and backups, and develop lab SOPs to improve procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or 7+ years of lab management or systems administration experience.
• 5+ years of directly relevant Linux System Administration experience.
• 3+ years of Splunk Enterprise administration and log ingestion.
• 3+ years of Ansible automation (Ansible Core or Ansible Tower/AAP).
• U.S. Citizenship; DHS Suitability; Secret clearance (preferred: TS/SCI).

Responsibilities

• Develop Splunk dashboards and alerts for system health, performance, and security monitoring.
• Troubleshoot and resolve enterprise storage and network issues; ensure backups and security.
• Advise on lab SOPs and policies; manage project components to meet objectives.

Job description

• Oversee Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments across development, lab, and production systems
• Perform large-scale configuration management and deployment across Windows, MacOS, Linux/Unix, and virtual environments
• Support implementation of new technologies and equipment in the lab environment
• Provide systems administration, technical support, upgrades, patching, and troubleshooting
• Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks, roles, and workflows
• Configure, deploy, and maintain Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform
• Administer and maintain Splunk Enterprise/Splunk Cloud for monitoring, security analytics, and operational intelligence
• Implement and monitor security controls, including STIG compliance, access management, and audit configurations
• Develop Splunk dashboards and alerts for system health, performance, and security event monitoring
• Implement granular access control, establish backups, and monitor system security and accessibility
• Troubleshoot and resolve enterprise storage and replication issues across local and wide area networks
• Identify efficiencies in existing procedures with customer approval
• Manage assigned project components and deliver services according to established objectives
• Advise on development of lab SOPs and policies
• Apply security concepts, tools, and methodologies to mitigate system weaknesses and vulnerabilities

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Computer Systems Engineering, or related field, or high school diploma and 7+ years of lab management or systems administration experience
• 5+ years of directly relevant experience as a Linux System Administrator
• 3+ years of experience with Splunk Enterprise administration and log ingestion
• 3+ years of experience with Ansible automation, including Ansible Core or Ansible Tower/AAP
• Must be able to work collaboratively across physical locations
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Secret clearance with ability to obtain DHS Suitability
• Preferred: TS/SCI
• Preferred: Experience writing technical procedures and standard operating procedures
• Preferred: Virtualization automation and optimization
• Preferred: Experience with Linux/Unix, Windows, and MacOS
• Preferred: DoD 8140.01 IAT Level II
