Job summary

GHD in Irvine, CA (and across the West) is seeking an experienced Technical Director – Tailings to lead and grow our Tailings and Mine Waste services in the US. You will drive technical delivery on complex TSF projects while supporting business development and fee proposals.

This role requires a Civil/Geotechnical/Geological engineering degree, 20+ years of dam and mine waste experience, PE licensure, and the ability to mentor teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil, Geological, or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Minimum 20 years of geotechnical and civil experience incl. dams/mine waste; postgraduate quals preferred.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
• Strong profile in professional associations/publications.
• Broad dam design knowledge: embankment, tailings, concrete dams.
• Ability to grow and mentor junior staff.
• Knowledge of American and international standards/practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership in multi-disciplinary teams for planning, investigations, feasibility studies and design activities.
• Lead TSF design including deposition planning, water management, foundations, embankment dam stability, hydraulic analyses, liquefaction analyses, seismic deformation analyses, and groundwater analyses.
• Scope and lead geotechnical investigations and laboratory testing programs.
• Participate in dam safety inspections and risk assessments.
• Develop client and internal relationships nationally and internationally.
• Mentor and train other GHD staff.
