The pay range is $71,000.00 - $128,000.00. Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position. These include labor markets and in some instances may include education, work experience and certifications. A role with Engineering and Technical Design means being on a team of engineers and technical designers who create products that truly embody the intent of Target-owned brands. Can you ensure that each product has that just‑right mix of style, quality and value? Do you love to create technical product solutions that help meet strategic business goals? Here, you’ll partner with our quality and compliance teams to understand performance testing protocols and develop products that meet them.

Your work can help identify technical specifications and quality standards like raw materials, fit and function, construction details and dimensions. You’ll leverage collective expertise to suggest improvements to cost of goods, assembly, sustainability and ROI. You’ll also collaborate with vendors to ensure that the brand vision is clearly understood and successfully brought to life with every product we offer.

Role Overview

As a Technical Designer, you will support and be responsible for the product design and development process. This requires a diligent approach to workload and maintaining timely communication with cross‑functional partners. You will be responsible for understanding business initiatives, product functional requirements, and performance expectations to ensure fit and quality consistency of the product. In addition, you will work collaboratively with cross‑functional partners including vendors and the PSQA Quality team for effective technical specifications and product quality standards. You’ll also support and be responsible for timely sample evaluations, ensure fit consistency and quality levels are met, and obtain approval of all supported products. In collaboration with internal and external partners, you will co‑develop products, ensure the brand vision is executed, and identify and address manufacturing and quality issues. With regard to research, you will be responsible for understanding the competition and benchmarks for specified product categories and developing innovative product solutions.

About You
  • Four‑year degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Product Development, related field, or equivalent experience

  • Strong knowledge of various 2‑D and/or 3‑D CAD software packages
