At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low‑Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human‑capable.

As a technical design engineer working closely with a team of engineers, you will be supporting the design, analysis, development and testing of primary and secondary structures for the New Glenn second stage. You will share the team's impact on all aspects of the product lifecycle. You will develop conceptual designs, participate in our design review process, conduct trade studies, fabricate hardware, and execute tests. Under supervision, you will bring your designs to release maturity through detailed design, drafting, and drawing creation. You will be responsible for coordinating design updates and maintaining schedules, and plans. You will collaborate with multi‑functional teams to procure, fabricate, test, and ultimately fly the hardware you have helped craft.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities & Qualifications
  • Design, develop, and test primary and secondary metallic and composite structures
  • Create 3D models, detail part drawings, assemblies, installations, and interface control documents
  • Support configuration development, run trade studies, and develop concepts
  • Experienced with Creo (Pro/E), CATIA, Wildfire 5 or greater, Windchill 10
  • Experienced with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5) practices
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.100 and Y14.41
  • Create and manage product tree structures in CAD
  • Understanding of design fundamentals and material and process practices
  • Provide guidance and on‑site support for manufacturing, production, and integration activities
  • Coach, mentor and technically assist others
  • Takes ownership of work and is passionate about the mission
  • Able to keep up in a fast‑paced environment while also maintaining the highest quality
  • Highly organized with excellent technical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive relationships, and collaborate effectively
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous professional experience (internship, co‑op, or full‑time) in developmental projects and/or operational environments with safety‑critical hardware
  • Create test plans, specifications, and other documentation for the development of flight hardware
  • Understanding or familiarity with basic engineering disciplines ‑ mechanical, structural, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, etc.
  • Experience with rapid development techniques for hardware
  • Familiarity with analysis codes: Nastran, ANSYS, OptiStruct, Abaqus, HyperMesh, Hypersizer
