Job summary

Mission Critical Partners is seeking a technical design consultant to provide subject matter expertise in public safety grade facilities. The role focuses on design and migration of mission critical technology across 911 centers, EOCs, and related facilities.

You will participate in surveys, master planning, and systems integration, collaborating with IT, vendors, and stakeholders to deliver compliant, resilient infrastructure and documented recommendations.

Qualifications

  • At least five years of experience in engineering, IT, construction, or related field in public safety/critical infrastructure.
  • Proficiency reading drawings, specs, codes and standards; experience with CAD/Rev it preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • CJIS certification required or ability to obtain upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site surveys, assessments, master planning for justice/public safety facilities.
  • Design resilient technology infrastructure with redundancy and disaster recovery.
  • Develop technology roadmaps for CAD, NG911, GIS, radio, and video systems.

Job description

Asa technical design consultant,theindividualisexpected to provide subject matter expertise indesign of public safety grade, critical infrastructure facilities and the design and migration of mission critical technology and infrastructure.Supporting projects that focusonthe assessment,specifications,design,build, and systems installation of public safety grade facilities, including emergency communications centers (911 centers), emergency operations centers, real time crime centers, and other public safety related facilities. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct on-site surveys, facility assessments, feasibility studies, master planning, and programming for justice, public safety, 911, and government campus facilities through data collection, equipment inspections, site tours, and stakeholder interviews.
  • Design resilient public safety facility technology infrastructure with standards-based redundancy, geographic diversity, continuity of operations, survivability, and disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Develop detailed network designs integrated with technical and office furniture layouts.
  • Assess technology installations and recommend improvements to support compliance with applicable codes, grounding and lightning-protection requirements, NFPA standards, the International Building Code (IBC), and industry best practices.
  • Develop technology roadmaps and migration strategies for CAD, NG911, GIS, radio, records management, video, analytics, and emerging public safety technologies.
  • Evaluate and integrate technologies such as AI-assisted tools, video analytics, drone operations support systems, automated license plate recognition (ALPR), gunshot detection, situational awareness platforms, and public safety data integration solutions.
  • Collaborate with public safety personnel, IT resources, internal teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to identify needs, customize solutions, integrate systems and infrastructure, and ensure successful project execution.
  • Provide technical expertise, recommendations, and budget estimates throughout facility, technology, and infrastructure planning and design.
  • Prepare project documentation, including reports, risk and threat assessments, specifications, drawings, presentations, budgets, and client recommendations.
  • Conduct construction, installation, and system commissioning inspections to confirm quality and alignment with project requirements.
  • Manage and report daily project activities to meet deadlines, maintain quality, and deliver projects within client budget guidelines.
  • Support state and local board and subcommittee meetings, including preparation and follow-up activities.
  • Contribute technical details to requests for proposals (RFPs), PSAP funding requests, statements of work, and periodic reporting requirements.
  • Partner with business development staff to advance ongoing programs, proposals, and opportunities for additional services.
  • Share technical knowledge, ideas, and best practices with colleagues to strengthen team-based problem-solving and client solutions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of five years of experience in engineering, IT, construction, or a related field, in a public safety or critical infrastructure environment.
  • Proficiency in facility design for critical infrastructure and hardened facilities is highly desirable.
  • Experience with reading construction drawings, specifications, codes and standards, and engineering graphics.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience with Procore, BIM 360, Visio, Blue Beam, and AutoCAD/Revit necessary.
  • Knowledge of data center and/or network systems design to include UPS, generator, Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC), data center infrastructure management (DCIM), grounding, raised flooring, etc.
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure, complex technological systems and critical facilities.
  • Ability to safely work in a construction environment for information gathering, quality control, and work assessment.
  • Must be able to complete Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) certification upon hire.
  • Experiencemanagingcomplexpublicsafetyprojectsand/ortraining(preferred).
  • Knowledge of public safety operations including emergency communications, law enforcement, emergency management, real time information center operations, and public safety technology ecosystems; specific experience with first response agencies is required.
  • Ability to prepare and present complicated technology systems concepts in an understandable way to executive leadership, elected officials, boards, committees, and public safety stakeholders while creating trusted relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Valid driver’s license.
