Job description

Sonar is driving the future of agent‑centric software development. As the leader in AI code verification and governance, we solve a critical problem: ensuring that software generated by AI‑assisted developers or autonomous agents is reliable, secure, and maintainable.

Position Description

As Technical Communications Manager at Sonar, you will own the bridge between deep product expertise and compelling public narrative. This rare role is built for someone who understands how software gets built, has lived inside product marketing, and wants to use that fluency to shape how we communicate the Sonar narrative through our marketing campaigns, brand, and communications functions.

What You Will Do
  • Own product storytelling: serve as the primary communications owner for product‑related narratives and partner closely with technical PMMs to translate product launches, feature updates, and technical differentiation into stories that resonate with developer and technical buyer audiences.
  • Bridge PMM and communications: act as the connective link between product marketing and the broader communications function, ensuring technical depth and product context flow seamlessly into PR, social, internal communications, and brand content.
  • Campaign‑minded execution: develop and execute integrated communications campaigns that map to the full customer journey— from awareness through consideration to retention and advocacy—thinking beyond individual assets to the arc of how a message builds over time.
  • Community engagement: build and deepen Sonar’s presence in developer communities, technical forums, and open‑source ecosystems, understanding how trust is earned in these spaces and what it takes to show up with credibility rather than noise.
  • Social media & technical voice: support and contribute to our social media presence with content that speaks authentically to technical audiences, bringing an AI‑first approach to content development and a clear understanding of how LLM‑first search and discoverability affect brand visibility.
  • Content & thought leadership: write and develop technical content—blogs, bylines, launch narratives, developer guides—that positions Sonar as an expert voice in code quality, security, and the AI‑augmented development workflow.
  • Performance & measurement: track and report on the performance of product communications and campaigns, using data to optimize messaging, assess resonance with technical audiences, and demonstrate impact.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Hands‑On AI & development experience: built with AI tools, shipped product, or worked closely with engineering teams, giving genuine fluency about how developers think, what they care about, and what earns their trust.
  • PMM foundation: likely a Product Marketing Manager today—or recently— with a strong pull toward communications, community, writing, and social.
  • Campaign architecture: think in arcs, not assets, understanding how a message evolves across the customer journey and how to design a communications program that compounds over time.
  • Community fluency: understand developer communities—how to post, contribute, and earn a place in them.
  • Technical writing & storytelling: make complex things clear without dumbing them down; writing is precise, perspective earned, and respects reader intelligence.
  • AI‑first content approach: use AI tools naturally in workflow, designing for how AI‑generated and LLM‑indexed content affects brand discoverability.
  • 5+ years in B2B tech: experience working with technical brands—ideally in developer tools, security, or AI—with a track record of creating content that resonates with engineering and technical decision‑maker audiences.
  • Agility & autonomy: manage multiple workstreams, make informed decisions independently, and collaborate across teams without needing everything fully mapped out.
In‑Office Culture

We believe the best teams are built in the room together. Three anchor days—Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays—create the collaboration rhythm that makes a hub office worth having. Candidates must be genuinely based in the location the role is posted; we support relocation for the right person.
