Job summary

FMB Maschinenbau GmbH is seeking an experienced procurement professional to manage operational and strategic purchasing. You will handle parts sourcing, supplier evaluation, and contract terms in a manufacturing setting, collaborating with design, production, and QA to ensure on-time material availability.

The role emphasizes cost analysis, market monitoring, and process improvement, with strong emphasis on German and English communications, and hands-on ERP data maintenance.

Qualifications

• Completed technical or business apprenticeship with relevant further education, or a degree in a technical or business field.
• Experience in technical procurement at a manufacturing company, preferably machinery/plant engineering.
• Strong knowledge of procurement and contract law.
• Excellent written and spoken German and English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Independent procurement of parts based on drawings, mechanical and electrical components, assemblies, and technical services.
• Management of the entire operational procurement process—from requests for quotes and bid evaluation through order placement to schedule tracking and resolution of delivery discrepancies.
• Supplier Selection, Evaluation, and Development.
• Negotiating prices, delivery terms, and contract terms.
• Ensuring the availability of materials while taking quality, costs, and delivery dates into account.
• Conducting price, cost, and value analyses, as well as identifying and implementing cost-saving opportunities.
• Monitoring procurement markets as well as developments in raw materials, prices, and supply chains.
• Monitoring and improving delivery quality, on-time delivery, and cost trends.
• Handling complaints and service disruptions in collaboration with Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Production.
• Close collaboration with Design, Work Planning, Production, Quality Assurance, Project Management, and Sales.
• Maintenance and further development of purchasing-related master data and supplier data in the ERP system.
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of our purchasing processes and supplier structures.

Your profile

• A successfully completed technical or business apprenticeship with relevant continuing education, such as training to become a technician, technical business specialist, or business administrator; alternatively, a completed degree in a technical or business field
• Initial professional experience spanning several years in technical procurement at a manufacturing company, ideally in the machinery or plant engineering sector
• Strong technical understanding and knowledge of manufacturing and production processes
• Ideally, experience in purchasing parts based on drawings and custom-made parts, as well as mechanical or electrical components and assemblies
• Strong knowledge of procurement and contract law
• Negotiation skills, cost awareness, and a confident demeanour when dealing with suppliers
• An analytical, structured, and forward-thinking approach to work
• Initiative, a solution-oriented approach, and assertiveness
• Willingness to help shape strategic initiatives while actively contributing to day-to-day operations
• Strong communication skills, the ability to work well in a team, and a passion for collaborating with technical and business departments
• Proficiency in using ERP systems and common MS Office applications
• Good written and spoken German and English skills
• An interest in professional development and in taking on additional responsibilities over time
