Responsibilities

• Assists perioperative services with support for patient transport, environmental services, stocking, ordering supplies, and anesthesia providers.
• Prepares and maintains patient equipment and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia.
• Ensures adequate supplies are maintained and readily available for procedures.
• Follows sterile technique and aseptic practices and demonstrates infection control precautions.
• Procures supplies and equipment needed for anesthetic procedures and OR turnover after cases.
• Performs daily testing on anesthesia machines per protocol with documentation.
• Maintains par levels of supplies in anesthesia pyxis units and keeps workrooms stocked.
• Transports patients from inpatient units to pre-op holding, to the car, and for discharge as needed.
• Checks charts for completeness (permits, labs, X-ray, EKG, history/physical) and assists in instrument preparation.

Job Description:

The Technical Assistant assists perioperative services departments with support services of patient transport, environmental services, stocking, ordering supplies, and licensed anesthesia providers in various settings under the direct supervision of a licensed anesthesia provider and/or Registered Nurse. Provides support for routine surgical cases by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of patient equipment and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia. Ensuring adequate supplies are maintained. Individuals functioning as Technical Assistant/ Anesthesia Technicians should be capable of a level of self direction and supervision with what is commensurate with their training.

Essential Functions Follows biologic hazards, infection control precautions and all standard precautions and policy and procedure. Demonstrates understanding of sterile technique and the principals of aseptic practice. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to work with patients, anesthesia care providers and other members of the health care team. Procures supplies and equipment needed for the anesthetic procedure. Performs daily testing on anesthesia machines per protocol with documentation and follow up as needed. Participates in operating room turnover after case completion. Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills, patient & customer centered, is detail-oriented and accurate. Able to multi-task, manage time well and work efficiently under pressure, adapts to change in a positive manner. Maintains par levels of supplies in anesthesia pyxis units, ensures the anesthesia workroom, carts and c-section OR are well stocked. Maintains sterile supplies within the expiration date. Maintains the availability of necessary equipment in each SDS pre/phase 1 & 2 recovery operating room, inventories, order and maintains departmental supply stock consistent with departmental demand. Cognizant of where supplies are kept and is able to obtain or stock them accordingly. Transports patients from the inpatient units to the pre op holding area, to the car for dismissal etc. Checks chart for completeness permit, lab, x-ray and EKG reports, history and physical. Assists in preparing the instruments, supplies, endoscopes and equipment necessary during the surgical and invasive procedure.
