The Joint, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Interagency Division (JOID) provides expert support services to a range of customers spanning the Department of Defense, Federal Civilian, and international markets. SPA provides critical decision support to enable the execution of a strategy of technological superiority and delivers secure, resilient capabilities to the warfighter quickly and cost-effectively. SPA’s team of experienced analysts evaluates military problems, gathers data, develops software tools, and performs timely assessments to inform technology and acquisition governance decisions.

The position is located in Arlington, VA. The role is a Tech SETA – Security and Hardware. The incumbent will provide onsite support with advanced signal processing and applied computation in heterogeneous complex systems at scale.

Responsibilities

The DARPA Information Processing Techniques Office (IPTO) seeks experienced Technical SETA candidates to provide onsite support in advanced signal processing and applied computation. Responsibilities include providing technical advice on RF system design and operations for airborne and spaceborne systems; supporting and monitoring technical performance; evaluating research progress; preparing and delivering technical reports, briefings, and presentations to government officials; ensuring project management best practices; and performing trade studies, sensitivity analyses, and program scope assessments for new programs.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of relevant experience with radar systems and engineering design for sensor systems with automation
  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • Deep technical understanding of RF transmissions, RF system design, and RF modeling for airborne and space-based systems
  • Familiarity with general systems engineering principles for complex system development
  • Exceptional initiative, organizational skills, attention to detail, and reliability
  • Commitment to excellence and diligence in diverse, time-sensitive environments
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, including briefing preparation
  • Strong organization and technical writing skills for conveying complex information to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work independently and as a self‑starter in dynamic environments while meeting team goals
  • Extensive technical command of program baselines across the portfolio
  • Experience interfacing with non‑technical stakeholders and communicating technical challenges at varying levels of abstraction
  • Experience working in classified settings with Special Access Programs; familiarity with defense industry stakeholders
  • Willingness to work onsite as required by the client
Desired
  • PhD in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related discipline
  • Experience performing research and developing innovative technologies rapidly in response to emerging threats
  • Experience with autonomy frameworks and autonomous weapon systems, sensors, or related capabilities
  • Experience engaging with DoD and/or intelligence community transition partners
  • Experience building systems for denied, disrupted, intermittent, and limited (DDIL) environments and other contested scenarios
  • Experience with offensive and defensive cyber operations
Pay Range / Compensation

Virginia Pay Transparency Salary range: USD $190,000.00‑$230,000.00 annually. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications and may vary with location and other factors.
