Job summary

Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas, a major 414-bed acute care facility, seeks an experienced Surgical Technician to support operating room procedures. The OR Tech passes instruments, assists surgeons, and maintains aseptic technique while preparing and cleaning rooms for procedures.

The role requires CST/TS-C or prior surgical technologist employment with BLS completion and strong communication across ages and backgrounds.

Qualifications

• Requires CST/TS-C or documented proof of previous surgical technologist employment before Sep 1, 2009
• BLS Healthcare Provider course per RQI prior to clinical work during orientation
• Able to read and understand perioperative information and procedures
• Minimum computer literacy in keyboarding and Windows
• Effective communication with patients of all ages and backgrounds

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of surgical sites; passes instruments and assists surgeons.
• Practices aseptic technique and prepares room prior to surgery; cleans room after surgery.
• Ensures instruments, supplies and equipment are available as needed for procedures; takes assigned call.
• Works in instrument room as needed and supports OR staff in cost containment in the OR.

Texoma Medical Center, a 414-bed acute care facility has been providing quality health care to the residents of North Texas and Southern Oklahoma since 1965. Our main campus is located in Denison, Texas, approximately one hour north of the Dallas/Fort Worth area and just south of the Texas/Oklahoma border. The OR Tech is responsible for knowledge of anatomy and physiology of surgical sites. Passes instruments on all procedures or acts as an assistant and hold retractors as needed. Practices aseptic technique. Assist in preparation of room prior to surgery and cleaning room after surgery. Assists staff and surgeons to insure instruments, supplies, and equipment are available when needed for surgical procesures. Has two (2) years experience in the Operating Room as a scrub tech. Works in instrument room as needed. Takes assigned call as required. Exhibits knowledge of age specific needs of patients of all psychosocial, and/or cultural backgrounds. Integrally involved and participates with cost containment issues in the Operating Room.

Qualifications

• Requires the completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program (CST or TS-C) or the candidate must provide documented proof of previous (before September 1, 2009) employment as a surgical technologist
• Must have current CST or TS-C certification or be a LVN or provide proof of employment as a practicing surgical technologist in a health care facility before September 1, 2009. BLS (Basic Life Support) Healthcare Provider course according to RQI program guidelines must be completed during new hire orientation prior to working in a clinical setting
• Must be able to read and comprehend information related to perioperative operations within the job class.
• Minimum computer literacy in keyboarding and Microsoft windows.
• Communicate effectively, identify and address the special needs of patients of all age groups.
