Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. in Chicago seeks a Tech Ops Engineer II to lead cost control for large-scale data center projects. You will implement cost management, analyze bids, and coordinate with third-party vendors to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

The role requires a background in construction management or quantity surveying, experience with estimating software, and the ability to communicate cost strategies to engineers and stakeholders. Travel up to 30% may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field, plus 5 years of post-baccalaureate experience.
• Alternative: Master’s degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field and 2 years of experience.
• Experience includes construction cost control, data center or other mission critical construction environments, and construction management.
• Experience with estimating software such as CostX, Cubit, Onscreen Takeoff, Timberline and Bluebeam, as well as being an MS Office Suite power user.

Responsibilities

• Utilize tools and templates for bid analysis and cost management.
• Engage and manage third-party Quantity Surveyor vendors and ensure accurate invoices.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams globally and communicate cost control goals to stakeholders.
• Identify and quantify Value Engineering opportunities and assess risks and financial impacts.
• Update historical data repository and define cost performance metrics.
• Analyze vendor proposals with benchmark data and provide bid leveling and cost analyses.
• Validate final award value, schedule and scope based on contract documents and change costs.
• Implement, maintain and execute cost control, change management and performance reporting.
• Support project close-out and final payments.
• Deliver results for multiple projects with competing priorities.
• Domestic travel up to 30% may be required.
