Job summary

Cedar Springs Hospital, Inc. seeks a paraeducator to assist teachers with instructional delivery and behavior management in a school setting.

You will monitor students across classrooms and common areas, support IEPs and behavior plans, and help maintain a safe and therapeutic environment with 1:1 support when necessary. You will also help with attendance, grading, and organizing supplies while upholding professional boundaries and reporting concerns promptly to staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• CPR certification obtainable upon hire; CPI certification desirable or obtainable upon hire.
• Strong knowledge of crisis intervention, verbal de-escalation, risk assessment, and behavior management.

Responsibilities

Position Summary: The school PARA assists teachers and school staff with instructional delivery, behavior management, and student supervision. Standard duties include working with small groups or individual students, prepping classroom materials, monitoring lunchrooms or playgrounds, and tracking student progress and assuring student safety, under the direction of the Educational Coordinator, and Director of Special Education.

Monitor students in classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, and playgrounds. Ensure safety during transitions and field trips

Teach small groups or individual students under a teacher's direction. Reinforce math, reading, and language lessons.

Support Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or behavior plans. Guide social-emotional growth and manage developmental or physical needs.

Take attendance, grade assignments, copy papers, and organize supplies.

Understand and adhere to the Professional Boundary Policy and demonstrates the ability to maintain therapeutic relationships and boundaries and does not allow self-disclosure.

Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment, providing verbal de-escalation and physical management, when appropriate. Provides 1:1 for students needing to be restrained or removed from the classroom environment for safety reasons.

Always maintains a high level of professionalism but especially during times of elevated crisis and adheres to high standards of care and performance.

Completes accurate and timely documentation for every student interaction.

Attends and participates in all assigned meetings.

Reports all safety concerns upon discovery to a teacher, Educational Coordinator, or the Director of Special Education.

Abides by the Hospital’s Safety policies. If injured, complete the Employee Accident Report and submit it to the Loss Control Coordinator by the end of the shift worked, and no later than 24 hours after the injury occurred and abides by the Return to Work/Light Duty Program guidelines. If it is a work-related injury and results in a back injury, completes Back Injury Prevention Training with the Staff Development Coordinator.

Meets all annual competency requirements as assigned per department standards, including age-specific growth and development competencies.

Qualifications

High school Degree required, Bachelors Degree preferred.

CPR, can obtain upon hire

CPI Certification, can obtain upon hire

Demonstrated ability to maintain therapeutic relationships with students, which does not allow self-disclosure of personal or social information.

The ability to provide instructional support by teaching small groups or individual students under a teacher's direction. Reinforce math, reading, and language lessons.

Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and complex information.

The ability to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders including students, family members, co-workers, Department Supervisors, etc.

The ability to effectively support Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or behavior plans. Guide social-emotional growth and manage developmental or physical needs.
