Transdev in Savannah, GA seeks a hands-on Technician in Charge to lead a diesel technician team while actively diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing diesel vehicles and equipment. The role blends leadership with skilled diagnostic work on a third shift schedule (10:00 PM–6:30 AM, Sunday night through Thursday night).

The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of diesel technician experience, strong leadership abilities, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Technician in Charge

Transdev in Savannah, GA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technician in Charge (Lead Diesel Technician) to join our team. This is a hands‑on working leadership role responsible for leading and coordinating the activities of the diesel technician team while actively performing diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs alongside other technicians. The Technician in Charge is expected to lead by example, balancing technical work with team coordination to ensure the timely, safe, and efficient maintenance and repair of diesel vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent leadership abilities, and a passion for delivering exceptional service.

Work Schedule:

This is a 3rd shift overnight position: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM, Sunday night through Thursday night.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as a working lead, spending the majority of the shift performing skilled diesel diagnostics, maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance while providing direction and support to the technician team.
• Coordinate and prioritize the workload of the diesel technician team, assigning tasks and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
• Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues in diesel vehicles and equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, HVAC systems, electrical systems, and other vehicle components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
• Assist technicians with complex troubleshooting and repairs, providing technical guidance and mentoring while maintaining productivity in the shop.
• Coach, train, and monitor members of the work team, promoting safe work practices, quality workmanship, and continuous improvement.
• Manage inventory levels of parts and supplies, ensuring adequate stock to support maintenance activities while minimizing waste and excess inventory.
• Ensure all work is completed accurately, documented appropriately, and in compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a diesel technician, with demonstrated proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and related systems.
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment, while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
• The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
• Work environment will be a combination of both indoors and outdoors.
