Job summary

Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana, Kentucky seeks an Emergency Department Technician (ER Tech) to provide direct patient care and technical support under RN or physician supervision. Responsibilities include triage support, vital signs, specimen handling, and assisting with ED procedures in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist nursing and provider staff with patient assessment, treatment, and transport.
• Obtain and document vital signs, weight, height, and glucose accurately and timely.
• Assist with specimen collection, labeling, and transport following custody and identification requirements.
• Support RN staff in patient triage and gathering medical history and chief complaint.
• Provide basic patient care (bathing, toileting, positioning, ambulation) as permitted by scope of practice.
• Perform CPR and AED use, splinting, wound care, and other delegated procedures.
• Set up sterile fields and assist with ED procedures (suturing, line insertions).
• Transport patients safely within the facility with continuous observation as needed.
• Apply monitoring equipment as directed by nursing staff.
• Ensure EMTALA compliance and avoid delays in screening or stabilizing treatment.
• Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and infection prevention policies.
• Document accurately in the EHR and participate in drills and code situations.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and staff to promote safe, patient-centered care.

Job Summary/Purpose

The Emergency Department Technician (ER Tech) provides direct patient care and technical support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or physician in the Emergency Department (ED). The ER Techassistswith patient triage, treatments, and procedures while ensuring compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, EMTALA requirements, hospital policies, and state/federal regulations.

• Obtain and document vital signs, weight, height, blood glucose, and EKGs accuratelyandtimely.
• Assistwith specimen collection, labeling, and transport following CAP/TJC chain-of-custody and patient identification requirements.
• Support RN staff in patient triage, including gathering medical history and chief complaint information.
• Provide basic patient care (bathing, toileting, positioning, ambulation) consistent with licensure.
• Perform CPR,AEDuse, splinting, wound care, and other delegated procedures within scope of practice.
• Set up andmaintainsterile fields andassistwith ED procedures (e.g., suturing, line insertions).
• Transport patients safely within the facility whilemaintainingcontinuous observation whenrequired.

• Ensureaccurate,timely, and complete documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Participate in emergency preparedness drills, trauma activations, and code situationsin accordance withhospital policy.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff to promote safe, patient-centered care.
• Communicate clearly with patients and families, providing comfort measures and updates under RN direction.
• Activelyparticipatein shift handoffs, department huddles, and interdisciplinary team meetings.
