Overall Job Summary

This position is responsible for interacting with customers and team members, supporting selling initiatives and performing assigned tasks, while providing legendary customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

As a Team Member, it is essential that you be available, flexible, adaptable and service-oriented, as you must be able to fulfill all of the following requirements:

• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Work scheduled shifts and have the ability to work varied hours, days, nights, weekends and overtime as dictated by business needs.
• Support selling initiatives (TEAM):
  • Thank the Customer
  • Engage with the customer and/or pet
  • Advise on products or services
  • Make it Memorable
• Perform a variety of duties during 95% of your day, including:
  • Operate cash register/computer following cash handling procedures
  • Merchandise recovery
  • Participate in freight process
  • Complete Plan-o-gram procedures (merchandising, sets, resets)
  • Assemble merchandise
  • Perform janitorial duties
  • Execute price changes/markdowns
  • Assist customers with loading purchases
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of live animals, sanitize tanks, and care for live animals as required
  • Complete all related documentation
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: No experience required; retail and/or pet/live animal knowledge preferred.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; ability to read, write, and count accurately required.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

• Pet/Live Animal, pet food, pet product knowledge
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Basic computer skills
• Interpersonal skills and ethical conflict resolution

Working Conditions

• Indoor environment with moderate noise
• Hard surfaces, adequate lighting and temperature
• Shifts typically no less than 4 hours, may exceed 8 hours
• Promote safety and adhere to safety guidelines

Physical Requirements

• Non-sedentary role requiring movement throughout the store and outdoors
• Operate equipment safely and efficiently
• Occasionally lift or reach overhead
• Stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, climb ladders frequently
• Move throughout the store for entire shift
• Handle merchandise and live animals weighing up to 50 pounds
• Complete training and certification
