Overall Job Summary: This position is responsible for interacting with customers and team members, supporting selling initiatives, and performing assigned tasks while providing legendary customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

As a Team Member, it is essential that you be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented, fulfilling all of the following requirements:

  1. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  2. Work scheduled shifts and have the ability to work varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as dictated by business needs.
  3. Support selling initiatives (TEAM):
    1. Thank the Customer
    2. Engage with the customer and/or pet
    3. Advise on products or services
    4. Make it Memorable
  4. Perform a combination of duties during 95% of your day, including:
    1. Operate cash register/computer following cash handling procedures.
    2. Recovery of merchandise.
    3. Participate in freight process.
    4. Complete Plan-o-gram procedures.
    5. Assemble merchandise.
    6. Perform janitorial duties.
    7. Execute price changes/markdowns.
    8. Assist customers with loading purchases.
    9. Ensure the safety and well-being of live animals, including sanitizing and maintaining holding tanks.
    10. Complete all documentation related to these duties.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience: No experience required. Retail and/or pet/live animal knowledge is preferred.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required. Must be able to read, write, and count accurately.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
  • Pet/Live Animal, pet food, pet product knowledge.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve issues ethically and with minimal conflict.
Working Conditions
  • Indoor environment with moderate noise.
  • Hard surfaces (concrete, asphalt), adequate lighting and temperature.
  • Work shifts generally no less than 4 hours, may exceed 8 hours.
  • Promote a safe and productive environment following safety guidelines.
Physical Requirements
  • Position is non-sedentary; requires moving throughout the store and outdoor areas.
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Occasionally lift or reach merchandise overhead.
  • Stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders frequently.
  • Move throughout the store for entire shift.
  • Access all store areas safely.
  • Operate store equipment.
  • Read, write, and count accurately.
  • Communicate effectively with team and customers.
  • Process merchandise through POS system.
  • Transfer live animals, equipment, and merchandise up to 50 pounds.
  • Complete all training and certification.
  • Lifting up to 50+ pounds.
