Job summary

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Production Supervisor to lead a team of hourly professionals in a high-volume plant in the United States. You will uphold Ford Production System standards, drive continuous improvement, and manage safety, quality, delivery, cost, and team development on the shop floor.

You will coach and develop a high-performing team, foster a respectful culture, drive problem solving with root-cause analysis, and coordinate maintenance and downtime planning.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of paint experience supervising hourly teams in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in a high-volume manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience working within a unionized environment.
  • Proven ability to use data to inform decisions and drive results.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to resolve diverse problems under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal, team building, and communication skills, with the ability to present confidently to plant management.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold Standards: Monitor and ensure all manufacturing operating system standards are applied throughout your area of responsibility.
  • Achieve Production Targets: Lead your team to meet daily and long-term objectives across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People, Maintenance, and Environment.
  • Lead Problem Solving: Act as first line of support for issues; coach and lead root cause analysis for permanent corrective actions.
  • Ensure Production Flow: Provide necessary resources and ensure inputs are performed to standard for a smooth production process.
  • Drive Systemic Improvements: Identify and drive continuous improvement projects to address systemic issues and prevent recurrence of problems.
  • Lead and coordinate Continuous Improvement events on the plant floor, empowering your team to identify and eliminate waste to achieve safety, quality, and productivity goals.
  • Plan & Execute Work: Lead the creation, coordination, and execution of work plans for downtime and shutdowns; evaluate effectiveness for future improvements.
  • Manage Change: Plan and implement process revisions to meet new standards as manufacturing systems evolve.
  • Optimize Maintenance: Plan and monitor TPM activities to improve equipment reliability and area performance.
  • Lead & Develop World-Class Teams: Coach and mentor hourly production professionals to reach their potential with safety and excellence.
  • Foster a Culture of Respect: Create a positive, inclusive environment with psychological safety.
  • Coach and Develop Talent: Provide feedback to grow skills and support professional development.

In this role… You will lead a team of Production Supervisors, driving the production of world-class vehicles. You will be responsible for upholding the standards of the Ford Production System, developing your team, and relentlessly pursuing continuous improvement to meet our goals

What You’ll Do...
Drive Operational Excellence & Execution
  • Uphold Standards: Monitor and ensure all manufacturing operating system standards (Lean Manufacturing, Standardized Work) are consistently applied throughout your area of responsibility.
  • Achieve Production Targets: Lead your team to achieve daily and long-term objectives across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People, Maintenance, and Environment (SQDCPME).
  • Lead Problem Solving: Act as the first line of support for issues raised by the team. Coach and lead root cause analysis to implement permanent corrective actions for any process abnormalities.
  • Ensure Production Flow: Provide the necessary resources and confirm all critical inputs are performed to standard, ensuring a smooth and efficient production process.
Lead Continuous Improvement & Strategic Planning
  • Drive Systemic Improvements: Identify and drive continuous improvement projects to address systemic issues and prevent the recurrence of problems.
  • Lead and coordinate Continuous Improvement events on the plant floor, empowering your team to identify and eliminate waste to achieve safety, quality, and productivity goals.
  • Plan & Execute Work: Lead the creation, coordination, and execution of work plans for scheduled downtime and shutdowns. Evaluate the effectiveness of these plans to drive future improvements.
  • Manage Change: Plan and implement process revisions and improvements to meet new standards as our manufacturing systems evolve.
  • Optimize Maintenance: Plan and monitor Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities to improve equipment reliability and overall area performance.
Develop and Lead High-Performing Teams
  • Lead & Develop World-Class Teams: As a dedicated coach and mentor, you will empower your team of hourly production professionals to reach their full potential through consistent training, constructive feedback, and unwavering support, fostering a culture of safety and excellence.

You’ll Have
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience:
    • 5 or more years of paint experience supervising hourly teams in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
    • Demonstrated experience in a high-volume manufacturing or production environment.
    • Experience working within a unionized environment.
    • Proven ability to use data to inform decisions and drive results.
    • Excellent leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to resolve diverse problems under pressure.
    • Strong interpersonal, team building, and communication skills, with the ability to present confidently to plant management.

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience:
    • 8 or more years of paint experience supervising hourly teams in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment.
    • Prior tenure in a direct leadership or supervisory role in manufacturing.
    • Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt) or other Lean Manufacturing certification.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
