Job summary

Responsibilities

In this position...

The Crew Manager is responsible for ensuring manufacturing operating standards are consistently applied across the plant, driving Quality, Flow, and inventory performance, and developing Senior Process Coaches and Team Managers within their crew. This role resolves production barriers, escalates issues as needed, and fosters a proactive, performance-driven culture through strong communication and recognition. The Crew Manager also ensures completion of administrative responsibilities and leads quality review processes to support continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
Standards & Flow
  • Verify start-up readiness and monitor first-hour production performance; lead line time meetings (inventory, manning, shift planning).
  • Confirm manufacturing operating system standards are applied consistently across the plant.
  • Meet JPH targets; establish and communicate recovery plans between crews for abnormalities.
  • Track finished vehicle inventory aging and drive aged units (>5 days) to zero, including parts readiness/requests.
  • Balance headcount across departments and plan/monitor maintenance tasks to sustain flow.
  • Develop and coach Team Managers/Senior Process Coaches to achieve SQDCPME objectives.
Safety & Quality
  • Lead emergency response and containment actions for safety incidents.
  • Escalate and contain quality issues at point of fit/workstation prior to Final Area Inspection and CAL line.
  • Contain EP stops during shift and communicate with Process Engineers/Supervisors.
  • Review QLS reports, prioritize top quality issues, and lead containment for A Calls.
People & Communication
  • Coach and resolve barriers raised by Team Managers/Process Coaches; elevate to Area Manager/Plant Leadership as needed.
  • Communicate critical information across shifts (Crews B/C) and maintain Crew Manager-to-Crew Manager handoffs.
  • Lead weekly off-shift manpower meetings with HR; conduct DROT analysis to confirm headcount coverage.
  • Manage open job postings, fill timing, and training plans for new employees; validate training completion and certifications.
  • Track crew versatility by zone (weekly DCC report); conduct Good & Welfare meetings with Union partners.
  • Foster a proactive, respectful, performance-driven culture; recognize team accomplishments to build morale.
Administrative
  • Cascade required communications (e.g., Weekly Bulletins, Safety ICA) to process coaches.
  • Complete required administrative activities (SOI, PJOs, start-ups, close-outs, LPRs).
Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma
  • 5+ years of Production experience with strong ability to interface across hourly, salaried, and management levels.
  • Ability to present to plant management and teach Ford Production System principles.
  • Union negotiations experience.
  • Competence using data for decision-making; effective oral and written communication.
  • Strong teamwork and leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to resolve diverse problems under pressure.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, crisis-driven environment.
