Job summary

Garmin Ltd. in Chandler, AZ is seeking a full-time Team Leader Software Engineering to direct a software engineering team responsible for aviation software products. You will guide requirements, design reviews, and development plans while ensuring milestones are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/EE/CE/SE/Aerospace/Math/Physics or related field with 5+ years experience, or 10+ years relevant experience.
• Excellent academics (GPA ≥ 3.0)
• Must possess detailed knowledge of .NET Core and/or iOS app development.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Leadership experience managing a team of at least 5 direct reports.
• Willingness to lead in a fast-paced environment and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Lead a Software Engineering team in designing new products, enhancing existing designs, and developing tests.
• Coordinate and participate in generating software requirements and designs per Garmin SDLC.
• Participate in software design reviews, ensuring attendance and best practices.
• Create product development plans as directed by engineering management.
• Ensure the team meets development goals and milestones per plan.
• Monitor progress toward requirements and schedule.
• Directly supervise team members, providing coaching and mentoring.
• Participate in recruiting activities: interview, hire, train, and evaluate.

Job description

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Team Leader Software Engineering for Garmin's Chandler, AZ location. In this role, you will be responsible for directing and coordinating activities of a Software Engineering team that is responsible for software development for our commercial aviation software products.

Essential Functions

• Lead a team of Software Engineers with diverse capability levels in the design of new products, enhancement of existing designs, and development of test procedures
• Coordinate and participate in generating software requirements and designs for a product or family of products in accordance with Garmin’s software development methodology
• Participate in software design reviews as necessary, assuring proper attendees and proper coverage of topics, imparting lessons learned and good design practices to all who attend
• Create product development plans as directed by engineering management
• Ensure the team meets overall development goals in accordance with the product development plan or market requirements and ensure project milestones are met
• Monitor progress of the software teams in meeting product requirements and schedule compliance
• Directly supervise various levels of software team members by setting the tone for the team environment and providing individualized coaching, training and mentoring
• Participate in recruiting activities, interview, hire, train, and evaluate performance for the team

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR a minimum of 10 years relevant experience
• Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
• Must possess detailed knowledge and experience with high level language structure in .NET Core framework and/or iOS mobile applications relevant to Garmin’s business needs
• Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
• Previous leadership experience managing a team of at least 5 direct reports

Desired Qualifications

• Cloud platform experience deploying applications to a public cloud is ideal
• Hands-on technical competence and the ability to question and refine technical decisions
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment that is building customized technology for high profile clients
• A desire to contribue as a leader to the overall success of the team and work alongside the team when necessary
• Available to support after hours when needed for incident management
