Job summary

Alfa Laval Mid Europe GmbH is seeking a Material Handling Lead to coordinate the daily plan for the material handling team in our Richmond, VA area operations. You will assign resources, resolve discrepancies, train team members, and conduct root cause analysis to drive improvements.

You will lead a team of material handlers, collaborate with warehouse and inventory teams, and maintain ERP competency. The role emphasizes safety, quality, delivery, and cost, with daily and weekly improvement

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 2–4 years warehouse logistics experience.
  • 2–4 years material handling equipment experience required.
  • Experience with handheld barcode scanners (Zebra preferred).
  • Experience with BOMs, pick lists, and other manufacturing documents.
  • Experience with ERP systems (Microsoft D365 preferred).
  • Attention to detail, self-starter, team player, organized, good communication, cooperative, flexible.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of material handlers to ensure parts picking is accurate and timely.
  • Collaborate with warehouse/logistics teams to resolve issues.
  • Train team members to a high level of ERP system competency.
  • Review, plan, coordinate, and support daily work with a focus on ALPS priorities—Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost.
  • Drive daily ALPS Performance Meetings and weekly Improvement Meetings.
  • Run the daily shift startup/handover meetings.
  • Participate in projects and improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in root cause analysis to create sustainable solutions.
  • Provide departmental training and write/audit SOPs.
  • Own material handling activities in coordination with production.
  • Collaborate with inventory team to resolve discrepancies.
  • Serve as liaison between dept., support functions, and Team Manager.
  • Multi-task, self-manage, and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

Coordinate and support the daily plan for the material handling team. Assign resources as needed to meet daily goals. Resolve discrepancies efficiently, train team members, and do root cause analysis/problem solving as needed.

  • Lead a team of material handlers to ensure parts picking is completed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Collaborate closely with other warehouse/logistics teams to resolve issues.
  • Train team members to a high level of ERP system competency.
  • Review, plan, coordinate, and support the daily work of the department with a continuous focus on our ALPS priorities – Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
  • Drive daily ALPS Performance Meetings and weekly Improvement Meetings in the dept.
  • Run the daily shift startup/handover meetings.
  • Participate in projects and improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in all aspects of the Problem Resolution Process to help determine the root causes of problems and create sustainable solutions.
  • Provide departmental training.
  • Write and audit SOPs as required, and drive improvements to the processes.
  • Own the material handling activities in coordination with the production team.
  • Collaborate closely with the inventory team to resolve inventory discrepancies.
  • Serve as liaison between the dept., support functions, and Team Manager.
  • Ability to multi-task, self-manage, and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What you know:
  • You have a high school diploma or GED and 2 - 4 years previous warehouse logistics experience required.
  • 2 - 4 years previous material handling equipment experience required.
  • Experience with handheld barcode scanners (Zebra preferred).
  • Experience working with Bill of Materials, pick lists, and other manufacturing documents.
  • Experience working with ERP systems (Microsoft D365 preferred).

Physical Factors
  • Physical Requirements (lifting, climbing, standing, kneeling, and equipment use): Ability to lift 45 pounds occasionally.
  • Certified Equipment operation (Forklift, Order Picker) Ability to stand for majority of the work day.
  • Environmental Factors (hazardous materials, work location, work surfaces, exposure): Some hazardous material handling required.
