Job summary

Catholic Charities Community Services is looking for a part-time Youth Worker in New York City responsible for conducting needs assessments, developing goals for youth, and coordinating participant recruitment and retention activities. The role requires at least a High School Diploma, 2 years of youth experience, and excellent social skills. Salary ranges from $18 to $19 per hour. Working hours include evenings and some Saturdays.

Job description

Location: 1257 Ogden Avenue

Summary: The team leader is responsible for individual needs assessment and developing short and long term goals. The Youth Worker is also responsible for the overall planning and monitoring of the Youth Council and Participant recruitment.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial needs assessment, intake and orientation of new participants.
  • Create short- and long-term goals for participants based on the needs assessment.
  • Maintain teen participant folders and application.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans for Youth Council and youth leadership activities and special initiatives.
  • Collect participant's report cards to monitor their educational progress and keep track of youth academic life.
  • Monitor and track participant attendance and conduct outreach to support retention.
  • Assist with the recruitment of teen participants.
  • Co-facilitate Parent Meetings.
  • Responsible for keeping the Program Director and Assistant Director informed of any changes and abnormalities that may occur.
  • Submit weekly reports to the Program Director and Assistant Director on a timely basis.
  • Attend all program staff meetings, trainings, and special events.
  • Assist other staff when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary: $18 - $19 per hour or $32,760 or $34,580 annually.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position. Work hours are as follows: Monday-Friday 6pm-10pm some Saturdays 12am-5pm. Monday - Friday 6pm- l lpm July - August.

  • Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings.
  • Remain in a stationary position either working at a computer or monitoring activities.
  • Move for long periods, providing instruction.

Travel when taking field trips, using public transportation, traverse city streets, ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions, while escorting youth.
