Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a Team Lead Systems Administration to manage and optimize assigned healthcare IT areas on the Broadmoor Campus. The role partners with clinical and operational stakeholders to enhance patient care, improve workflows, and drive efficiency through system upgrades, configurations, and testing.

You will mentor analysts, coordinate cross-functional teams, and ensure adherence to governance, change control, and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 2+ years analyst or system administration experience, or 10 years of analyst/sysadmin experience in lieu of degree.
  • Healthcare experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Epic applications or similar healthcare IT tools.

Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Lead serves as a subject matter expert and team lead responsible for the implementation, optimization, and operational support of assigned areas. This role partners with clinical and operational stakeholders to work on initiatives that enhance patient care, improve clinical workflows, and drive operational efficiency. The Lead oversees application build, configuration, and testing while mentoring team members and ensuring adherence to best practices and organizational standards. This position requires strong collaboration with cross-functional teams including operations, informatics, solution architects, training, and infrastructure to deliver solutions that align with the organization’s strategic goals.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Serve as the primary lead for an assigned area, domain, or portfolio (e.g., upgrades, application, sustainability, optimization, or growth initiatives), with accountability for overall performance, delivery, and continuous improvement
  • Application lifecycle management within assigned area(s), including planning, implementation, optimization, and ongoing support and maintenance
  • Ensure alignment of application capabilities with organizational goals, clinical workflows, and long-term strategy
  • Lead execution of projects and initiatives within the assigned area, ensuring successful delivery of build, validation, and implementation activities
  • Develop and manage implementation strategies, timelines, and deliverables across both project-based and operational work
  • Coordinate and lead application workgroups, ensuring alignment of priorities and timely completion of all assigned work
  • Track, monitor, and report on progress, risks, and dependencies across the assigned area, not just individual initiatives
  • Accountable for successful transition from implementation to support, including knowledge transfer, standards documentation, and change request and maintenance ownership
  • Accountable for ongoing system performance, stability, and support within the assigned area
    Lead efforts related to sustainability, including upgrades, system maintenance, optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure adherence to change management, release management, and organizational governance standards
  • Facilitate prioritization of enhancements, defect resolution, and technical debt management within the assigned domain
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve procedures, processes, and standards for the assigned area
  • Ensure consistent adoption of defined processes across the team, including build, testing, validation, and support practices
  • Establish and enforce best practices for delivery, documentation, and operational support
    Partner with leadership to define and evolve policies related to governance, release management, and change control
  • Ensure compliance with organizational, regulatory, and application-specific requirements within the assigned area
  • Identify gaps in existing processes and lead efforts to standardize, streamline, and improve team efficiency and quality
  • Partner with process owners, business stakeholders, and informatics teams to define priorities and ensure solutions meet clinical and operational needs
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify, scope, and prioritize work across the assigned area
  • Facilitate discussions to align stakeholders on scope, priorities, and design
  • Lead or oversee design, build, and configuration activities across the assigned area. Partner with solution architects where appropriate on these activities.
  • Delegate build and technical tasks appropriately to team members while maintaining accountability for outcomes
  • Define and execute testing strategies, including creation of test plans and coordination of validation sessions
  • Lead validation efforts to ensure solutions meet business and clinical requirements
  • Partner with stakeholders to define and prioritize reporting needs within the assigned area
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to validate reporting solutions
  • Ensure reporting outputs support operational decision-making and system performance monitoring
  • Lead, coach, and mentor application analysts supporting the assigned area
  • Provide direction, delegate responsibilities, and ensure consistency and quality across work efforts
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing
  • Partner with Principal Trainers to support development of application-specific training strategies and materials
  • Lead or coordinate post–go-live activities, including refresher sessions, workshops, and site visits
  • Promote user adoption and ensure solutions deliver expected value to end users
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex issues within the assigned area

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelors Degree
  • 2 or more years analyst or system administration experience or 10 years of experience as an analyst or System Administrator in lieu of degree
Preferred Education and Experience
  • 2 or more years healthcare experience
Knowledge Requirements
  • Familiarity with Epic applications or assigned tools

Familiarity with Epic or other vendor best practices for applications supported
