California PPE is an Independent Service Provider (ISP) supporting first responders through the cleaning, inspection, repair,

and management of firefighter personal protective equipment (PPE). Our work helps ensure customer gear is handled

accurately, safely, efficiently, and with the quality expected of a specialized PPE service operation.

Position Summary

The Team Lead - Intake is a working lead responsible for the day-to-day coordination, accuracy, organization, and flow of

shop-floor intake and Intake/Cleaner activities for firefighter PPE. In addition to performing hands-on Intake/Cleaner duties,

this position serves as the primary shop-floor resource for receiving, documentation, chain of custody, tagging, tracking,

sorting, staging, cleaning workflow, and movement of customer gear through the initial shop process. The Team Lead helps

ensure customer property is accurately identified, protected, documented, and routed through established Company and ISP

processes. This position reports to the Operations Manager and provides functional day-to-day direction within the

intake/cleaner area; hiring, termination, formal discipline, compensation, overtime approval, customer-pricing, and

company-policy decisions remain with management unless specifically delegated.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform all core Intake/Cleaner duties, including receiving, documenting, tagging, sorting, tracking, staging, cleaning support, loading/unloading, pickups/deliveries when assigned, and general operational support.
• Take day-to-day ownership of the intake and shop-floor receiving area, including the organization and flow of incoming gear from arrival through cleaning, inspection, hydrostatic testing, repair, or the next assigned process step.
• Receive firefighter gear and related PPE; compare received items against customer paperwork, manifests, PODs, tags, work instructions, or other available documentation and promptly identify discrepancies.
• Help ensure each item and ensemble is correctly identified, tagged, associated with the proper customer/work order, and staged according to established process requirements.
• Maintain accurate chain-of-custody practices and help prevent lost, mixed, misidentified, or incorrectly routed customer property.
• Enter, verify, or review intake and tracking information in Company systems, including Gear Tracker or other approved software when applicable.
• Coordinate tagging, barcode/identifier application, sorting, counting, staging, and routing of gear through required shop processes.
• Coordinate routine Intake/Cleaner tasks among qualified team members based on workload, customer priorities, due dates, and direction from the Operations Manager.
• Perform spot checks of intake documentation, tags, counts, customer identification, staging locations, and system entries for completeness and accuracy.
• Hold or separate gear when customer identification, quantity, documentation, contamination, safety, or chain-of-custody concerns must be resolved before further processing.
• Coach and train Intake/Cleaner staff on receiving procedures, documentation standards, tagging, tracking, safe handling, cleaning workflow, customer-property protection, and shop organization.
• Support onboarding and cross-training of Intake/Cleaner employees and communicate training needs, recurring errors, or performance concerns to the Operations Manager.
• Coordinate with Sewing/Repair, Inspection, Final Inspection, Shipping, and other operational functions to keep gear moving and resolve missing or inconsistent information.
• Assist with customer pickups and deliveries as assigned and ensure gear is loaded, transported, and transferred according to Company safety and accountability procedures.
• Monitor tags, forms, labels, packaging, cleaning materials, and related consumables and communicate replenishment needs to the Operations Manager.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe intake/cleaning area and ensure gear, carts, bins, racks, tools, supplies, and workin-process are stored appropriately.
• Track intake workload and status, identify bottlenecks or unusual delays, and provide timely updates to the Operations Manager.
• Recommend practical workflow, training, organization, or process improvements to the Operations Manager.

• Perform other related duties as assigned or needed to support shop operations, pickups/deliveries, cleaning activities, and customer requirements.

Leadership Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day task direction, coaching, procedural guidance, and workflow coordination to Intake/Cleaner staff.
• Pause or hold gear when documentation, identification, contamination, safety, or chain-of-custody concerns must be resolved.
• Request correction of incomplete tags, records, staging, counts, or intake steps before gear advances.
• Support training, cross-training, and consistent application of approved intake, cleaning, and tracking procedures.
• Escalate serious, recurring, policy-related, customer, safety, or personnel matters to the Operations Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience in intake, receiving, cleaning, warehouse, logistics, inventory, delivery, customer service, or a comparable hands-on operational environment.
• Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to accurately count, identify, tag, document, organize, and track customer property.
• Basic computer and mobile-device proficiency and ability to learn and use Company tracking systems.
• Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, initiative, organization, and ability to manage multiple work priorities.
• Ability to communicate instructions clearly, coach others respectfully, and work effectively with employees at different skill levels.
• Ability to work independently while recognizing when a matter should be escalated to the Operations Manager.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record when operation of a Company vehicle is required.
• Reliable transportation to and from the workplace.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience handling firefighter PPE, technical garments, customer-owned equipment, or other serialized/trackable assets.
• Experience training, mentoring, coordinating, or leading employees in an intake, warehouse, production, cleaning, or logistics environment.
• Experience with barcode systems, inventory tracking, work-order software, Gear Tracker, or similar systems.
• Customer-facing pickup/delivery or route-service experience.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, loading, and unloading throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift and move items weighing 30 pounds or more, with assistance or equipment when appropriate.
• Ability to safely handle wet, bulky, or contaminated PPE according to training, PPE requirements, and shop procedures.
• Ability to work in a warehouse, cleaning, intake, and delivery environment with changing workload demands.

Schedule

• Full-time, Monday through Friday.
• Typical Fresno shop schedule is approximately 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, subject to business needs.
• Occasional overtime, early starts, extended hours, pickups/deliveries, or schedule adjustments may be required based on workload and customer needs and are subject to Company approval procedures.
