Role Overview

As a Team Lead, Engineering at Deel you will guide a cross‑functional team of 6–10 professionals, balancing 50% leadership and 50% hands‑on technical work. You will drive technical excellence, mentor your team, and deliver scalable, innovative solutions in a fast‑paced, startup‑like environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering growth and skill development.
  • Design, code, and deliver high‑quality, scalable applications, primarily in Node.js.
  • Maintain best practices in development, testing, deployment, and code reviews.
  • Collaborate closely with product, design, and other engineering teams to create exceptional user experiences.
  • Plan and execute technical initiatives, balancing short‑term objectives with long‑term system health.
  • Promote Agile methodologies to enhance team productivity and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate cross‑team efforts and resolve complex, multi‑team technical challenges.
  • Represent the engineering team in cross‑functional discussions, aligning technical requirements with business objectives.
  • Participate in hiring, performance management, and creating an inclusive, high‑performance culture.
Required Technical Skills
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals:
    • Object‑oriented programming (OOP) principles.
    • Experience designing maintainable, scalable systems.
    • Ability to write clean, structured, and testable code.
  • Strong SQL skills:
    • Ability to write complex queries from scratch.
    • Deep understanding of data structures and query performance.
  • Experience with APIs and distributed systems:
    • Debugging integrations and system interactions.
    • Understanding data flow across services.
  • Strong problem‑solving ability, including root‑cause analysis across code, data, and systems.
  • Experience working in production environments: handling incidents, debugging issues, and managing escalations.
