SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Team Lead serves as the primary point of contact between operators and the Production Supervisor, providing direction, training, and real-time problem resolution while actively participating in production. This role requires leading by example, reinforcing standard work, and proactively addressing issues to maintain smooth operations and effective team performance.

JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain a safe work environment and enforce all safety rules and procedures.
  • Stop production and escape immediately for safety or quality concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with TS16949, environmental requirements, and company policies.
  • Adhere to housekeeping SOPs, including 5S standards.
Production & Performance
  • Lead the assigned team to meet or exceed SQDC targets.
  • Ensure Pace boards are updated accurately and on an hourly basis.
  • Ensure scrap is properly recorded in the Plex ERP system.
  • Communicate and eskale issues that impact safety, quality, delivery, cost, or morale.
  • Perform required duties and communication during shift overlap procedures.
  • Fill in as needed to cover planned and unplanned absences based on operational priorities.
Quality
  • Verify that all quality checks, measurements, and documentation are completed and recorded in the SPC system by job specifications and standard work.
  • Act as first-level response for quality issues and escale as required.
  • Support containment, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities.
Team Leadership & Training
  • Assign daily work and provide directions to operators.
  • Serve as the primary contact for team members regarding daily work activities.
  • Train and coach employees based on work instructions, standard work, and job requirements.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert for all equipment and processes in the assigned area.
  • Influence and motivate team members to follow rules, standards, and procedures.
Equipment & Troubleshooting
  • Operate all equipment in the assigned work area according to standard work.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing production equipment as needed.
  • Escalate equipment issues to Maintenance when required.
DECISION AUTHORITY
  • Stop production for safety or quality concerns.
  • Reassign labor within the shift to meet operational needs.
  • Escalate issues impacting SQDC performance or team morale.
  • Recommend corrective actions (final approval remains with the Production Supervisor).
JOB QUALIFICATIONS :
Education & Experience
  • Associates degree in an applicable technical field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 2–4 years of relevant manufacturing experience, preferably in a Tier I or Tier II automotive environment.
  • Direct experience with applicable manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding) preferred.
  • Prior manufacturing leadership experience preferred.
Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read, understand, and document information from blueprints, manuals, and work instructions.
  • Basic math and computer proficiency.

  • Ability to meet or develop all essential skills for the assigned area within three months of position acceptance.
  • Ability to discern between colors and pass a color vision test.
Work Environment
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles.
  • Noise levels are typically moderate to loud.
  • Manufacturing floor environment requiring sustained attention and awareness.
Physical Demands
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally up to 60 pounds.
  • Stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl regularly.
  • Use hands and arms to reach, handle, and operate equipment.
  • Ability to work at heights using ladders or lifts.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • An associate's Degree in an applicable technical field is required, or a combination of relevant experience and training.
  • 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a Tier I or Tier II automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Direct experience with the types of processes encompassed by areas of responsibility (such as injection molding) preferred, or ability based upon other relevant experience.
  • Manufacturing leadership is preferred.
  • Meets or can develop all Essential Skills requirements for a team member within their areas of oversight within 3 months of position acceptance.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
