Choosecolumbusga is seeking a Team Assistant for GA Home Care in Columbus, GA. The role supports the home care team with clerical duties, handles phone calls, communicates with patients and families, and assists supervisors and clinical staff.

  • Assist with chart audits and with interdisciplinary team meetings.

Team Assistant-GA Home Care

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Position Goal

Assist Home Team staff with clerical duties, such as responding to telephone calls, communicating with patients and families as well as providing clerical assistance for supervisor and clinical staff.

Education and Experience

Required:

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)
  • Minimum of one year of clerical experience in a healthcare environment
  • Proficient in medical terminology, Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Outlook), and general typing.

Preferred:

  • Experience with an electronic medical record (EMR) system
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Vaccines

Required:

  • Influenza vaccine during influenza season (Nov. – March)
  • Valid drivers’ license with satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
  • Auto insurance per company policy
  • Reliable personal transportation

Preferred:

  • CPR Certification
Special Qualifications:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to respond to questions from clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to speak professionally to patients, physicians and others in the organization via telephone and personal communication.
  • Must be skilled at prioritizing tasks.
  • Ability to multi-task and deal with frequent interruptions.
  • May deal with emotionally distraught families. Interactions with terminally ill patients.
  • Requirement to maintain professional appearance and communication at all times.
Position Requirements (not all inclusive)

  • Coordinate with clinical secretary to ensure patient information is sent to/ returned from physician’s offices.
  • Assist with chart audits, as requested by Patient Care Coordinator.
  • Distribution as requested by Patient Care Coordinator.
  • Assist with efficient coordination of Interdisciplinary Team Meetings.
  • Travel to physician offices/hospitals to deliver/pick up paperwork or to obtain signatures on paperwork.
  • Coordinate with medical directors and call patients for their home visit appointments.
  • Fax and file paperwork, as needed.
  • Answer phones and direct calls, as needed
  • Maintain patient confidentiality, at all times.
  • Take all reasonable precautions to maintain privacy and non-disclosure of any confidential information about patients, other staff members, and the general operations of Columbus Hospice.
  • Represent the company in a positive and professional manner at all times with others, e.g., co-workers, management, vendors, and customers.
  • Complete all job responsibilities in a thorough and complete manner, utilizing good judgment in all aspects of the job.
  • Acquire 15 continuing education hours per year or will not be eligible for merit increases and may be subject to termination. Of the required 15 hours per year least 12 hours must be in hospice-specific topics.
  • When unsure of a directed task or any part of job responsibilities, proactively seek the assistance of immediate supervisor.
  • Ensure job responsibilities are met, including attendance requirements and prompt arrival at work.
  • Assist with special projects, as requested.
  • All other job duties as may be assigned.
