Job summary

Amarillo ISD is seeking a qualified teacher to provide engaging instruction for students and to coach athletic teams. The role includes delivering in-person and virtual lessons, aligning with district curricula and state guidelines, and supporting students’ academic and athletic growth.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and a valid Texas teaching certificate. Coaching experience in the assigned sport is required, with responsibilities extending to program development and collaboration

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement lesson plans for in person and virtual learning that fulfill the requirements of district curriculum and show written evidence of preparation as required.
• Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of learning styles and needs of students.
• Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by TEA, board policies, and administrative regulations.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.
• Cooperatively meet and plan with other staff to implement instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
• Work with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for students with IEPs.
• Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides and volunteers.
• Employ the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.

Job Description

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in sport assigned. Contribute to the education program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics.

University/college required student teaching or approved internship

Major Responsibilities And Duties

Instructional Management

• Develop and implement lesson plans for in person and virtual learning that fulfill the requirements of districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
• Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
• Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.

Student Growth and Development

• Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
• Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formative and summative assessments and track progress through a variety of methods.
• Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the school.
• Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.
• Create an in-person and virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

Classroom Management and Organization

• Establish effective classroom management and administer discipline in accordance with board policies, administrative regulations, and campus management plans.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication

• Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
• Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents.
• Communicate with students or parents on a regular basis via phone or video conference, email, or district-approved website.
• Maintain a positive and professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members through effective communication both verbally and written.
• Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
