Gurnick Academy is a leading Bay Area private healthcare college offering an extensive variety of nursing and allied healthcare programs such as: Vocational Nurse, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN pathway) as well as healthcare programs: Associate of Science in Physical Therapist Assistant, Associate of Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant, Ultrasound Technology, MRI, Radiologic Technology, and Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Imaging.

We are currently seeking an Physical Therapist Assistant Program, Teaching Assistant , Part-Time for our Associate of Science in Physical Therapist Assistant Program at our San Jose , CA campus. This is an On-Ground position at our San Jose, CA Campus.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

Under direct supervision, the Teaching Assistant position works with Program Heads (Program Coordinator, Supervisor, and/or Director) in providing instructional support. This role will interact directly with Faculty and Students based on the needs of the Program Head. The Teaching Assistant role will ultimately require the knowledge of the program at their campus to best support the needs of the Program Heads, Faculty, and Students. The PTA Teaching Assistant

position works with the program director and faculty in providing instructional support in the laboratory setting. This role will interact directly with students based on the needs of the program director and lab instructors.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

The job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the Faculty in preparing the syllabus, instructional materials, and exams
  • Assisting the Faculty in grading exams and assignments
  • Providing tutoring, mentoring, and one on one sessions as directed by Faculty and Student Retention
  • Assisting in monitoring retention and follow up
  • Tracking, filing, and follow up of all student work as needed
  • Assisting faculty with recordkeeping such as tracking attendance and calculation of grades
  • Assisting Faculty in initiating, following-up, and completing student advising documentation
  • Emailing and tracking outstanding student work for all courses
  • Proctoring make up exams and remedial work
  • Preparation and maintenance of student files
  • Preparation, monitoring, and filing of competency checklists
  • Maintaining records and monitoring functioning of lab equipment

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Verbally communicate with students in a courteous and professional manner
  • Communicate effectively in writing in a courteous and professional manner
  • Organize and arrange classroom supplies and materials
  • Exercise creativity in addressing classroom management issues
  • Exercise tact, resourcefulness and judgement with all student groups
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with faculty and administrative staff
  • Work independently and under minimal supervision to effectively complete work tasks
  • Follow direction given by faculty to ensure work is completed per instruction
  • Flexibility with time and assignments to accommodate different learning styles of students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree
  • Licensed PT or PTA
  • Graduation from the program or relevantly similar program
  • Organizational knowledge of educational institutions
  • Three years of clinical experience in the profession
