The Teaching Assistant (TA) position at the University of New Hampshire's Child Study and Development Center (CSDC) supports the center's mission to provide high-quality early childhood education through active supervision, curriculum support, family interaction, and classroom operations and organization. Teaching Assistants work collaboratively with lead teachers, assistant directors, and other staff members to ensure a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young children.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Child Supervision and Engagement: Facilitate children’s activities and play, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment.
- Child Supervision and Engagement: Model appropriate behavior for children and demonstrate flexibility and initiative by moving to areas of need within the classroom.
- Child Supervision and Engagement: Provide supervision for children during daily routines, including toileting/diapering, dressing, and transitions.
- Curriculum Support: Prepare and organize materials for classroom activities as directed by the lead teacher.
- Curriculum Support: Assist with implementing planned activities and adapting to children’s needs.
- Curriculum Support: Participate in curriculum documentation, observing and recording children’s learning experiences when requested.
- Family Interaction: Welcome families into the classroom with a warm, professional demeanor, building positive relationships while deferring assessment or developmental discussions to the permanent teaching team.
- Classroom Maintenance: Complete routine paperwork and daily tasks, such as snack and lunch preparation, cleaning, and maintaining a tidy, safe learning environment.
- Classroom Maintenance: Contribute to the upkeep of classroom resources and materials.
- Flexibility in Assignments: Collaborate with the assistant director and classroom teachers to meet the needs of the center, including potential changes in classroom assignments.
- Additional Responsibilities: Provide primary supervision for a group of children as needed.
- Additional Responsibilities: Open or close the classroom when required.
- Additional Responsibilities: Take on tasks aligned with licensing and accreditation standards, depending on experience.
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Adult and Pediatric CPR and First Aid certifications within 90 days of hire.
- NH ProSolutions Health and Safety Training Program completion within 7 days of hire.

- Exhibit a positive and proactive attitude in all interactions with children, families, and staff.
- Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and adaptability in a dynamic classroom setting.
- Foster a collaborative spirit while prioritizing the safety and well-being of children.
Other Requirements
- Comprehensive federal background check and NH background check. Additionally, any interstate background checks for states in which you have resided within the past five (5) years or currently reside in, if not in NH.
- Documentation of a recent physical and up-to-date immunizations.
- Provide a copy of an unofficial transcript.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with young children in a group setting.
- 9 college credits focused on early childhood education, education, human development and family studies, or a related field as defined by NH Child Care Licensing Rules.
