Job summary

Thomas MacLaren School in Colorado Springs seeks a Teaching Assistant to support classroom teachers by implementing the curriculum and assisting in day-to-day tasks. This role involves working with students in small groups and one-on-one to provide academic, behavioral, or SEL support.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma (AA or higher preferred) and a genuine love of educating children. Training in pedagogy and collaboration with ESS/MTSS teams will be provided, with duties including

Responsibilities

  • Assist faculty in implementing curriculum and handling logistics.
  • Work with students in small groups or one-on-one to address needs.
  • Support ESS and MTSS teams with IEPs, 504s, and related plans.
  • Help implement academic and behavior plans as directed.
  • Receive training to maximize effectiveness with students.
  • Fulfill monitoring duties (lunch, recess, traffic) as assigned.

Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Reports To: Lead Teaching Assistant
Supervisory: No
Exempt Non-exempt
Pay Type: Hourly
Compensation:
  • Pay range: $17-$20/hour
  • Benefits: For employees contracted for 30 hours per week or more, Thomas MacLaren School pays for 100% of the employee’s base insurance premiums (Health, Dental, Vision, Long-term and Short-term disability, Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance, and Life insurance) for the base level coverages. No benefits are provided to employees contracted for less than 30 hours per week.
  • General Purpose: To assist classroom teachers in implementing the curriculum and providing student support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist faculty members in implementing the curriculum and completing logistical and administrative tasks
  • Work in small groups or one‑on‑one with students who need academic, behavioral, or Social Emotional Learning (SEL) intervention.
  • Assist the Exceptional Student Services (ESS) and Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) teams in implementing student plans (IEPs, 504s, MTSS and READ plans, etc.)
  • Assist faculty in implementing academic and behavior plans
  • Receive training in pedagogy, curriculum, and protocols in order to be maximally effective with students
  • Fulfill regular monitoring duties (e.g., lunch, recess, traffic, etc.)
  • Any other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:
  • Education: High School degree; Associate’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university preferred.
