Job summary

Wisconsin Conservatory of Music invites applications for the Fellowship in Teaching Artistry. The program aims to place early-career Black and Latine artists in classical music to teach and perform, with mentorship and a steady salary, in underserved Milwaukee communities.

Fellows will train in August–September, then teach in schools three days per week, with private studio work starting in November and ongoing mentorship. The fellowship spans one year with a potential renewal.

Qualifications

• U.S. Residency or valid US visa for the duration of the Fellowship.
• Bachelor’s degree in Music with emphasis in strings, piano, or percussion.
• Willingness to relocate to Milwaukee, WI for August 1, 2026–July 31, 2027.
• Reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Teach music three days a week in schools that otherwise would have no music teacher.
• Work with a WCM faculty mentor to observe, co-teach, and eventually teach lessons.
• Begin weekly private lessons in your own studio starting November, with ongoing mentor meetings.
• Network with musicians and leaders from Milwaukee arts organizations.
