Our apprentices develop the knowledge and skills essential for successful teaching while earning legitimate work experience at one of New England’s finest independent schools. The program will begin in June 2026, and is open to aspiring K‑12 educators. SIGNIFICANT SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE THROUGH LESLEY’S MAINE SCHOLARS PROGRAM.
Each Berwick Academy Teaching Apprentice (TA) works under the guidance of experienced mentors for an entire academic year. Throughout the year each TA has two different teaching placements where they build lasting connections with students and colleagues. The TAs receive continuous feedback from their mentor teachers and the program director. In addition, the cohort of TAs meets for weekly seminars where they learn about teaching strategies and discuss classroom experiences.
Berwick TAs are also active participants in the wider Berwick Academy community, participating in parent‑teacher conferences, attending faculty meetings, participating in professional development opportunities and/or coaching athletic teams. Berwick’s Teaching Apprentices develop the knowledge and skills essential for successful teaching while earning legitimate work experience at one of New England’s finest independent schools. The program will begin in June, and is open to aspiring educators in the elementary, middle, and high school levels (PK‑12).
