Job summary

Westchester Medical Center Health Network is seeking a Teaching Aide to provide non-instructional support to preschool children with special needs in a classroom setting, under the direct supervision of a certified teacher.

You will assist in managing materials, routines, and a clean environment, while nurturing each child's social, emotional, cognitive and physical development and supporting personal care tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with young children or children with disabilities is helpful but not required.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Responsibilities

• Assists the teacher in managing records, materials, and equipment.
• Assists the teacher in carrying out planned classroom activities and routines.
• Assists in maintaining a clean and organized classroom environment.
• Actively provides nurturing, supportive care to children by addressing each child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs.
• Supports children with personal care tasks as needed, including feeding, toileting, and mobility assistance, following appropriate hygiene and safety protocols.
• Supervises students during classroom transitions, outdoor play, lunch, and rest periods, as directed by the teacher.
• Participates in staff meetings and trainings.
• Supervises students and assists with classroom activities that support instruction, as determined and supervised by the teacher.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
