Job summary

Compass Intervention Center is seeking a dynamic SPED Teacher in Memphis, Tennessee. The Teacher will conduct assessments and develop individualized educational plans for students with special needs, ensuring a supportive learning environment.

Job description

Responsibilities

Compass Intervention Center is seeking a dynamic and talented SPED Teacher. The Teacher is responsible for conducting an educational assessment and developing and implementing an individualized tutorial plan based on the individual's learning needs and abilities.

Essential Functions Include:

  • Teach smaller classes of 8-15 students with additional staff support
  • Gain experience with behavior management techniques
  • Implement Differentiated Learning/Instruction
  • Provide direct and indirect instructional support
  • Instruct students in core academic subjects using a variety of techniques to reinforce learning and to meet students’ varying needs and interests, while establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicating those objectives to students.
  • Teach socially acceptable behavior, as determined by the students’ individualized education programs (IEPs) by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system.
  • Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities and/or need academic support in a small group setting, based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students.
  • Meet with parents to discuss their children’s progress and determine priorities for their children’s individualized educational needs.
  • Confer with parents, clinical therapist, testing specialists, the Director of Education, and other professionals to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) designed to promote students’ educational, physical, and social/emotional development.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities.
  • Develop plans for effective communication, monitoring, and follow-up of students in inclusive classroom settings.
  • Assist in collection of data for providing appropriate classroom and tiered interventions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Prefer previous experience working with children and adolescents with special educational needs.
  • TN SPED Licensure required.
  • TN Elementary, Secondary Education current Licensure.
  • Prefer knowledge of effective teaching skills and educational strategies with a special education population, individual and group management skills, therapeutic relationships and processes, age specific growth and development; limit setting and crisis and behavior management.
