RYSS Academy at Brownsville is seeking a Teacher Resident as part of a yearlong residency program. The role provides guided clinical training under host teachers, campus administrators, and university faculty to prepare educators for day-one readiness.

During the yearlong residency, Residents progressively assume greater responsibilities and participate in planning, co-teaching, and PLCs while aligning with district and campus goals. A commitment to growth and student success is essential.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in one of the listed teacher residency programs.
• Must be ready to start 3rd semester in the Fall.
• Residents follow certification examination timelines.
• Be on track with degree roadmap for Fall residency and within 21 hours of graduation.
• Strong work ethic, openness to feedback, and belief in student potential.
• Knowledge of the subject matter being taught.

Responsibilities

• Co-planning and co-teaching with Host Teacher.
• Attend district professional development trainings before and during the school year.
• Participate in PLCs, campus and district meetings, UTRGV seminars.
• Attend PTA meetings, open houses, staff meetings and assigned duties.
• Demonstrate understanding of curricular goals and concepts to be presented.
• Align instruction to district framework and campus lesson templates.
• Collaborate to monitor data and adjust instruction for accelerated learning.
• Manage procedures and supervise students during instructional and non-instructional times.
• Hold students to high behavior and engagement expectations.
• Monitor independent work time while instruction is provided.
• Address social, emotional, and behavioral needs with guidance from mentors.
• Incorporate feedback to improve professional skills.
• Ensure alignment of instructional goals and to troubleshoot learning challenges.
• Follow all documents such as IEPs and 504 plans with MT guidance.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and campus staff.
