Job summary

Soliant Health is seeking a contract-based braille instructor near Tehachapi, CA, to work one-on-one with a high school student who has low cognition. The role is tailored for Braillists, TVIs, Paraprofessionals, or SLIs with braille teaching skills, for 30 hours per week from Aug 13, 2026 to Jun 11, 2027.

You will adapt braille materials, track progress, and collaborate with families and educational teams to foster independence and academic growth in braille literacy.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in braille required; ability to teach braille to beginning learners.
  • Experience supporting students with visual impairments, especially at high school level.

Job description

Make a significant impact by supporting a high school student with visual impairment in a fulfilling, contract-based role near Tehachapi, CA. This opportunity is tailored for professionals passionate about making braille accessible—whether you're experienced as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, Braillist, Paraprofessional, or a Speech-Language Interpreter (SLI) skilled in teaching braille.

In this position, you'll work one-on-one with a bright student who is developing both foundational and functional braille literacy skills. This student has low cognition and will greatly benefit from individualized, attentive instruction throughout the school year.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:
  • Proficiency in braille required; ability to teach braille to beginning learners
  • Experience supporting students with visual impairments, especially at the high school level
  • Background as a Braillist, TVI (Teacher for the Visually Impaired), Paraprofessional, or SLI who can instruct braille
  • Strong communication skills, patience, and adaptability

Key Responsibilities:

This contract runs from August 13, 2026, to June 11, 2027, for 30 hours each week during the 26/27 school year.
