Job summary

Community Action of Washington County seeks 3 full-time Head Start teachers to support early childhood education for ages 3–5 in Hillsboro, OR. A Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education is preferred, with two years of relevant teaching experience and bilingual English/Spanish abilities.

Qualified candidates must have a Step 9 (or higher) on the Oregon Registry Online and be enrolled in the Oregon Central Background Registry before hire.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Use Creative Curriculum to plan and implement weekly lessons; observe and document child development.
  • Support inclusive education for children with mental health or special needs; collaborate with E.C. Special Education staff.
  • Conduct home visits and parent conferences to engage families as primary educators of the child.
  • Familiarize with Head Start Policies, Procedures and Performance Standards.

Job Title

Teacher – Head Start

Job Position Description

We’re looking for 3 full‑time teachers. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education or higher (preferred), two years of experience teaching children ages 3‑5, and will be bilingual in English and Spanish. A Step 9 from the Oregon Registry Online and a current Oregon Central Background Registry (CBR) enrollment is required before hire. This position is under an Advanced Placement rate and all new hires receive $26/hour for a Step 9 qualification or $32/hour for a Step 10.

Abbreviated Duties List
  • Use Creative Curriculum to create an environment conducive to learning, reflective of the different stages of child development, responsive to cultural backgrounds, and inviting to children and families. Develop and implement weekly lesson plans; collecting and recording objective child observations; support with the planning and implementation of the curriculum and individualized education services to the children in the class.
  • Ensure the successful inclusion of all, including children with mental health and/or special needs; work with Early Childhood Special Education staff and partners to identify and provide appropriate services.
  • Conduct home visits, parent‑teacher conferences and other parent‑focused activities to establish a positive link between home and school for families of assigned children and supports the parent(s) as the primary educator of the child.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed working knowledge of Community Action Head Start Policies and Procedures and Head Start Performance Standards including and not limited to Family Services, Parent Engagement and Policy Council.
  • In collaboration with the Family Services Teacher, provide relationship‑based support to assist families in skill development to achieve their family goals including regular follow‑up to identify progress, barriers to progress.
Abbreviated Requirements
  • Education: Minimum of an Associate of Early Childhood Education or equivalent; sufficient to be placed at Step 9 or higher on the Oregon Registry.
  • Experience: At least a year of qualifying teaching experience in a Certified Child Care Center or comparable group care program, in the care of children ages 3‑5.
  • Must be able to successfully pass applicable background and Oregon Central Background Registry checks prior to new hire processing and beginning actual employment.
  • Completion of appropriate Fit for Duty and TB Testing according to Head Start regulations prior to date of hire.
  • Requires a valid Oregon driver’s license, proof of auto insurance for private vehicle, and/or access to reliable transportation.
What Will Make You Stand Out
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or qualifications that would allow the candidate to be placed at ORO Step 10.
  • Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English and another language. Ability to translate written material.
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of Head Start.
  • Training and/or education in working with children with special needs.
