Job summary

Lawrence Public Schools is seeking a History Teacher for SY 2026-2027 at Lawrence High School and associated campuses in Lawrence, MA. The role emphasizes delivering US History instruction to students with diverse linguistic backgrounds and applying Massachusetts frameworks and WIDA standards.

Qualifications

  • SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) endorsement required.
  • Two years teaching experience in similar demographics is preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Responsibilities

  • Teach five sections of US History to students.
  • Design standards-aligned lessons using Massachusetts frameworks and WIDA.
  • Use assessments to measure progress and adjust instruction.
  • Maintain inclusive, engaging classroom environments.
  • Communicate regularly with families to support language development.
  • Participate in school-wide functions, PD, and curriculum planning.
  • Document ILPs and state mandates accurately.
  • Support students from diverse linguistic/cultural backgrounds, including newcomers.
  • Collaborate with SPED/ESL teachers to differentiate instruction.
  • Attend biweekly instructional coaching sessions to improve practice.
  • Meet weekly with grade-level teams and interdisciplinary cohorts.

Req# 3080020-29 Organization: Lawrence Public Schools Job Title: History Teacher (SY 2026-2027) Location: Lawrence High School - Lower School Academy - Grade 10

Core Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach five sections of US History
  • Design and implement standards-aligned lessons using the Massachusetts Frameworks and WIDA standards
  • Use formative and summative assessments to measure student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Manage student behavior in alignment with school expectations and create an inclusive, engaging learning environment
  • Communicate regularly with students' families to promote academic success and language development
  • Participate in school-wide functions, professional development, and curriculum planning
  • Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with ILPs and state mandates
  • Support students with diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, including newcomers and SLIFE population
  • Complete other duties as assigned
  • Meet weekly with a grade-level content team and an interdisciplinary cohort.
  • Collaborate with Special Education and ESL teachers to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students
  • Participate in biweekly instructional coaching sessions to improve instructional practices.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Appropriate Massachusetts DESE licensure required - this includes a passing score on the Communication and Literacy - Skills test and a passing score on the relevant subject matter knowledge test(s).
  • Teachers should hold an SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) endorsement.
  • A minimum of two years teaching experience in a school setting serving a similar demographic preferred, but not required.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Pay Range

In accordance with the Lawrence Teachers' Union. ($61,788 - $94,614)
