Job summary

Rappahannock County High School in Washington, Virginia is seeking a qualified High School Math teacher to join our faculty immediately. This exempt, full-time position reports to the principal and supervises a teacher aide if applicable.

The role requires a four-year degree and a Virginia teaching license or eligibility, with the expectation of obtaining full licensure within 90 days. The department emphasizes student achievement and compliant, confidential records management.

Qualifications

  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university on the Virginia approved list.
  • Hold a Virginia license in the appropriate teaching area or eligibility for a Virginia license with an application for the Virginia license within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements the instructional program for assigned subject area(s) following the school and school division policies and procedures and the Virginia Standards of Learning.
  • Employs a variety of teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the range of student abilities and needs, including available instructional technology.
  • Monitors student behavior and maintains discipline for a safe learning environment. Models and encourages appropriate behavior standards acceptable in the school community.
  • Maintains student records as required by the school, school division, and the state of Virginia policies and procedures. Maintains strict confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Participates in the testing program by utilizing appropriate instructional strategies to assist students in the highest levels of achievement. Follows all school, school division rules and regulations and state and federal laws regarding testing.
  • Prepares and distributes periodic progress reports and semester report cards.
  • Allocates and grades homework, assignments, and tests utilizing division grading procedures.
  • Effectively communicates with parents regarding their child’s educational progress via periodic written reports and verbal communications including, but not limited to scheduled progress reports, report cards, Tuesday Folders (at RCES), and parent/teacher conference days as per school and school division policies and procedures.
  • Works cooperatively with supervisors and colleagues in order to ensure continuous improvement in providing the highest quality educational program and the safest and most inviting educational environment.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities for personal and professional growth.
  • Plans, attends, and/or participates in special events as requested by administrators including, but not limited to, field trips, school assemblies, PTO.
  • Maintains the appropriate license for the subject area(s) in the state of Virginia.
  • Follows the regulations and policies of the Rappahannock County Public Schools and the laws of the state of Virginia.
  • Other duties as assigned by school administrators.

Minimum Training and Experience

Four-year degree from an accredited college or university on the state of Virginia approved list. Hold a Virginia license in the appropriate teaching area or eligibility for a Virginia license with an application for the Virginia license with 90 days of employment. If acquiring a provisional license, show continuous yearly progress toward achieving a clear Virginia license within the three-year period.
