Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Valid Florida Educator’s Certificate in Exceptional Student Education and Endorsement, as required.
  • Meeting certification and highly qualified requirement for core content area(s), at an appropriate level.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to design and implement educational services for exceptional students.
  • Knowledge of prescribed curriculum and research-based strategies for instructing students with varying learning abilities and styles.
  • Ability to use technology to support learning.
  • Ability to assess levels of student achievement, analyze data, and prescribe actions for improvement.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision.
  • Ability to provide specialized instruction aligned with IEP goals.
Responsibilities

Develop quality Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) that include present levels, measurable annual goals, benchmarks, and classroom/testing accommodations; collect and monitor performance data; adjust instruction; and report progress towards IEP goals.
Collaborate with general education teachers, service providers, and other staff to design effective instruction and least-restrictive service models; support the implementation of accommodations and interventions.
Coordinate and facilitate IEP meetings and reevaluations with parents and school/agency personnel, explaining procedural safeguards.
Participate in Eligibility Determination, Manifestation Determination, Functional Behavioral Assessments, and Behavior Improvement Plans, and serve as the Local Education Agency representative if designated.
Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated instruction that helps students meet state standards; use assistive technology and multimedia resources.
Assist in transition planning, including assessments, waivers, and deferrals; establish short- and long-term goals.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, IEP services, and data collection; enforce school rules and policies; administer state assessments with appropriate accommodations.
Provide a safe, collaborative learning environment and apply best practices for instruction and data-driven decision making.
Support school improvement initiatives and complete required professional development to maintain certification.

Physical Requirements

Light work: occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force, and frequently up to 10 pounds to move objects.

Terms of Employment

Salary and benefits will follow the District’s approved compensation plan. Hours of employment shall match the District schedule.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated according to the Board’s personnel evaluation policy.
