Job description

Position: Teacher - Early Learning Center

Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Carlow University is accepting applications for the full‑time Teacher position in our Campus Lab School’s Early Learning Center. The role reports to the Director and involves collaborative classroom management, child safety, program implementation, parent communication, and oversight of student workers.

Essential Functions
  • Treat children with love and respect, using positive guidance techniques.
  • Maintain constant visibility of, hearing, directing, and assessing children at all times.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbooks.
  • Plan and implement daily program using DAP theory, NAEYC, and the Creative Curriculum.
  • Communicate with parents daily and participate in parent/teacher conferences.
  • Apply NAEYC and Keystone STARS accreditation guidelines and standards.
  • Use Teaching Strategies: GOLD for periodic child assessments, share results with parents, and discuss development during conferences.
  • Implement Early Intervention strategies as directed by support staff.
  • Supervise work‑study students, field‑placement students, and volunteers.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor with colleagues, parents, and children.
  • Stay current with state licensing regulations.
  • Ensure a safe and clean environment for children and staff.
  • Engage in professional development (24 hours per year) and stay informed via professional journals.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as requested by the Director.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the Director or Executive Director.
  • Complete opening/closing duties as needed.
  • Maintain a consistent work schedule, arriving on time and completing each shift.
  • Demonstrate understanding of and commitment to the mission and core values of the University and the Sisters of Mercy.
Minimum Education Level Required
  • CDA, Associate’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field and one year of related experience.
Minimum Related Experience Required
  • At least one year working with children, preferably infants and toddlers.
Required Licenses/Certifications
  • DHS requirements: Current Act 33/34 and FBI fingerprint clearances, NSOR clearance, current physical and TB test, two letters of recommendation, Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification.
