Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seeks a technology educator to lead hands-on FabLab activities, develop lesson plans in digital manufacturing and design, and supervise students across related settings. Responsibilities

  • Develops lesson plans related to trade and industry digital manufacturing and design.
  • Teaches students how to use software and machines and follow safety procedures.
  • Supervises students in FabLab and assists in fabrication and design phases of projects.
  • Maintains lab equipment and inventories materials and parts.
  • Promotes critical, creative and innovative thinking in students.
  • Ensures safety procedures to protect students and facilities.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Job description

Summary: Provides leadership in an educational environment that encourages and nurtures learning for all students; provides supervision to students in a variety of school related settings; monitors and evaluates student outcomes; develops, selects or modifies lessons plans to ensure all student needs are met; maintains appropriate records and follows all policies and procedures of NCDPI and CMS.

Essential Duties
  • Develops lesson plans related to trade and industry digital manufacturing and design.
  • Works directly with students in the fabrication laboratory (FabLab) to design and develop prototype models.
  • Teaches students how to use the software, the machines, and to follow safety procedures, as well as assisting in the fabrication and design phases of their projects.
  • Provides normal maintenance of the lab machines and insures that inventory of materials and parts is up to date and available.
  • Utilizes classroom management techniques conducive to an effective classroom climate.
  • Uses appropriate techniques and strategies which promote and enhance critical, creative and innovative thinking capabilities of students.
  • Takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Knowledge of emerging trends, resources and technology related to trade and industry digital manufacturing and design.
  • Knowledge of computer generated technology and electronics.
  • Knowledge of Common Core and NC Essential Standards.
  • Knowledge of CMS Strategic Plan.
  • Knowledge of General Statute 115C of the NC State Law concerning Public Education.
  • Knowledge of CMS policies, rules and regulations.
  • Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, prioritize projects, plan starting and ending deadlines, and successfully bring closure to projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability and desire to seek and pass on knowledge to others in an educational/learning environment.
  • Proficiency in common desktop applications (web browsing, word processing, image editing etc.) required.
  • Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and the community.
  • Ability to work confidentially and with discretion.
