Job description

Job Title: Teacher – Birth to Three

Full‑time position, 40 hours per week in the Early Childhood Programs department.

Duties & Responsibilities
Administration
  • With Lead Teacher and Assistant Teacher develop and maintain confidential education information for children.
  • When Lead Teacher is absent, facilitate and document weekly team meetings.
  • Monitor and ensure daily attendance and meal participation reports are completed.
  • Accurately complete all required program documentation and submit it in a timely manner to Lead Teacher.
  • Protect all confidential information.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Director and Lead Teacher to assess strengths and challenges and develop annual goals.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Teacher to develop professional goals and review them quarterly for necessary adjustments.
  • Input classroom data into the appropriate information systems.
Child Development
  • Observe, assess, and document each child’s health, skills, behavior, growth, and development.
  • Provide opportunities for children to develop positive self‑images and experience success.
  • Document individualized education plans for each child.
  • Incorporate individualized educational activities into lesson plans.
  • Identify developmental concerns and follow agency protocol.
Curriculum
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate classroom activities that promote social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
  • With Lead Teacher and Assistant Teacher develop lesson plans with goals, objectives, activities, and outcomes that integrate health, nutrition, mental health, disabilities, and parent involvement.
  • Collaborate with support staff to integrate assessment results into curriculum and lesson planning.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Early Childhood Education.
  • Work collaboratively with the teaching team and support staff to incorporate assessment results into curriculum and lesson planning.
Classroom Environment
  • Assume responsibility for classroom management during Lead Teacher’s absence.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that includes positive guidance techniques meeting state and local licensing regulations, NAEYC performance standards, and the organization’s philosophy and curriculum.
  • Ensure all children are always under appropriate supervision.
  • Maintain an attractive, clean, safe, and engaging environment that encourages children’s independence and self‑selection of activities.
  • Create a secure environment that invites learning through exploration and discovery.
  • Maintain and care for equipment and materials.
  • Notify supervisor and appropriate parties of needed repairs or maintenance for classroom, playground, gym, and large motor room.
Parent Involvement
  • Coordinate with Assistant Director, Lead Teacher, and Family Support to schedule and ensure completion of at least two Parent‑Teacher conferences for each child.
  • Encourage parent participation in the program.
  • Develop effective partnerships with families.
  • Provide examples and ideas for educational activities for parent/child participation at home.
  • Encourage family engagement, including participation in quarterly Family Engagement Events.
Other
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings, including mentoring and coaching trainings.
  • Participate in Teacher meetings, trainings, supervision, and weekly team meetings, making contributions as needed.
Experience & Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development (CD), IT Credential Level 4 and ECE Credential Level 4.
  • Illinois Gateways member.
  • Three (3) years of prior teaching experience in a relevant early childhood group setting.
  • Knowledge of Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for children ages birth to 3 years.
Qualifications
  • Ability to establish a respectful and trustworthy relationship with toddlers, twos, and their families.
  • Ability to work respectfully and cooperatively with Teacher Assistants, including assisting them in increasing their professional knowledge and skills regarding developmentally appropriate practices for toddlers and two’s.
  • Ability to read and speak English proficiently.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Perform typical office activities such as seated computer entry, filing, lifting and carrying office supplies.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20–25 pounds.
  • May require more than 40 hours per week to perform essential duties.
  • Require fine hand manipulation (keyboarding).
