Job summary

Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is seeking a dedicated Teacher for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, to design and implement IEPs for students with disabilities using the MSSD curriculum. You will analyze learning styles, select appropriate activities, coordinate related services, and lead IEP meetings.

The role requires a Missouri Teaching Certificate or eligibility for certification, and a professional license.

Qualifications

  • Missouri Teaching Certificate or eligible to attain temporary or provisional certification.
  • Experience with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
  • The position requires a professional license pursuant to state law.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement individualized education programs (IEP) for students with disabilities using the MSSD curriculum.
  • Analyze learning styles from progress data and adapt teaching strategies to student needs.
  • Choose age-appropriate, functional activities and safe sites for teaching.
  • Integrate related services into daily instructional programs.
  • Conduct IEP team and special education meetings.
  • Coordinate behavioral support/intervention plans for challenging behaviors.
  • Develop and follow a time-efficient daily schedule for IEPs.
  • Direct daily activities of teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Maintain student confidentiality and safety at all times.
  • Completes required reports by deadlines and follows program policies.

Salary: $52,488 - $65,016

Please note: The salary range listed in this job description is a base salary. Applicants eligible for years‑of‑service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed the salary range listed above.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and implement appropriate individualized education program for students with disabilities utilizing MSSD curriculum, and considering transition goals, school, employment, community, and home learning environments.
  • Analyze student's learning style based upon charted progress and adapt teaching strategies and activities to meet the student's specific educational needs.
  • Choose age‑appropriate, functional and safe activities, materials, equipment and sites for teaching.
  • Integrate appropriate related services into students’ day‑to‑day instructional program.
  • Conduct IEP team and special education meetings.
  • Coordinate the design and implementation of behavioral support/intervention plans for students with challenging behaviors.
  • Coordinate the design and implementation of communication systems for students.
  • Develop and follow an instructionally time‑efficient daily schedule for implementation of students’ IEPs.
  • Direct daily activities of teacher aide(s) and classroom volunteers.
  • Follow student‑specific special health care procedures as specified.
  • Maintain a safe environment for students.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student, parent, and staff personally identifiable information.
  • Follow policies and guidelines of the MSSD program.
  • Accurately complete required reports on or before established deadlines.
  • Complete a professional development plan as required.
  • Collect academic, instructional, and IEP assessment data to improve student learning.
  • Carry out daily self‑care needs of students as needed (i.e., toileting, diapering, feeding, hand‑washing, tooth‑brushing, etc.).
  • Must maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification as specified by MSSD.

  • Missouri Teaching Certificate or eligible to attain temporary or provisional certification
  • Experience with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
  • The position requires a professional license pursuant to state law.
