Job summary

Anova Education is seeking a dedicated Autism Support Teacher to implement an effective program for students in the Autism Support program and assist general education teachers with individualized planning.

You will design activities that adapt the curriculum to meet students' needs and support implementation of IEP goals in a collaborative school setting. Strong communication and data-tracking skills are essential for student progress and parent coordination.

Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree and PA Special Education PK-8 Certification; Autism endorsement preferred.
  • Experience with Verbal Behavior Program preferred.
  • Demonstrated competence teaching with a record of impacting student achievement and ability to adapt to change.

Responsibilities

  • Assist classroom teachers with instructional strategies to facilitate inclusion.
  • Complete all necessary special education forms.
  • Determine student progress by collecting and monitoring data.
  • Coordinate and facilitate parent meetings.
  • Calmly and effectively deal with student problem behavior.
  • Implement empirically supported behavioral interventions.
  • Establish an instructional environment to reinforce appropriate behavior.
  • Develop instructional activities tailored to each student's IEP and goals.
  • Submit reports in a timely manner for IEP reviews.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and progress.

Title: Teacher, Autism Support (5-8 Itinerant)

Reports To: Principal

Supervises: Instructional Assistant, Autism Support

Employee Type: Full-Time, School Year Only, Salaried, Exempt

Summary

The Autism Support Teacher will develop and implement an effective educational program for the students assigned to the Autism Support program; assist classroom teachers in developing plans/strategies for student success; creatively design and assign activities that modify the general curriculum to appropriately meet students' needs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist classroom teachers with instructional strategies to facilitate inclusion
  • Complete all necessary special education forms
  • Determine student progress by collecting and monitoring appropriate data
  • Coordinate and facilitate parent meetings
  • Calmly and effectively deal with student problem behavior
  • Understand and implement empirically supported behavioral interventions
  • Establish an instructional/learning environment for students to reinforce appropriate student behavior
  • Develop a variety of instructional activities to meet the students' individual goals/objectives based on the student's IEP
  • Submit reports in a timely manner to coincide with IEP review meetings
  • Enforces the CCS Student Code of Conduct, the CCS Uniform Code, and the CCS Computer Usage Code
  • Promotes good citizenship through actions as a role model
  • Conducts himself or herself according to professional, ethical principles that reflect favorably upon the individual and the school
  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality pertaining to school and students' information, progress, and records
  • Assumes other responsibilities assigned by supervisor and/or school administrator
  • Abides by the CCS Employee Manual, CCS policies and procedures, and all current PA Public School expectations
Qualifications
  • A four-year college degree and PA Special Education (PK-8) Teacher Certification. Autism endorsement preferred. If certification is from a different state, PA certification must be obtained within determined a timeframe.
  • Experience with Verbal Behavior Program preferred
  • Demonstrated competence teaching, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement
  • Demonstrated competence as a special education teacher.
  • Ability to set priorities and adapt to change
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations
  • Required Clearances include Criminal Background Clearance (Act 34), Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151), and FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114), all dated within one year of receipt
  • Meets criteria for employment in a PA Public School
