Pay Details (Subject to Change)

Level I: $13.65/hour Level II: $14.49/hour Level III: $15.72/hour

Level Qualifications

Level I. High school diploma/GED; pre-school experience preferred; must enter Child Development Associate (CDA)

class and complete the CDA Certification process. For Assistants in WV Pre-k classrooms: must begin work to

obtain WV Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher (ECCAT) credential, and complete Permanent

Authorization within two school years.

Level II. A Child Development Associate (CDA), or state equivalent, certificate. For Teacher Assistants in WV Pre-K Classrooms: must hold an Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher (ECCAT)

Level III. Permanent WV Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher (ECCAT) credential, or CDA/ACDS or equivalent, plus two years of experience.

*If applicant’s credentials exceed those required for the position, the applicant will advance to the highest appropriate level.

Basic Qualifications

Must meet Level I qualifications. Have the desire to work with young children. Have knowledge of early childhood development. Strong interest in improving self and community. Self-motivated with ability to work without direct supervision. Writing skills. Valid driver’s license with safe driving record or state ID. Must pass drug screen and background check.

For WV Pre-K classroom Teacher Assistants: The Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher (ECCAT) Authorization must be immediately obtained. The Teacher Assistant must obtain Permanent Authorization within two school years of hire. The Temporary Authorization can only be renewed once, per WVBE Policy 2525.

Position Details (This is a sampling of duties and responsibilities of this position)

Attain an understanding of the connection between improving parent/family engagement and enhancing child development and school readiness. Responsible for the health & safety of enrolled children. Actively participate and work with teacher in planning, developing and implementing a developmentally appropriate education plan for children. Encourage families to become engaged with school readiness activities. Assist in developing & implementing lesson plans to meet each child’s needs, interests, learning styles, and individual goals. Assist in assessing individual developmental progress. Assist in home visitation & parent teacher conferences. Maintain center, with the teacher and center team members, in such a manner as to assure compliance with fire, safety and health standards. Assist the Teacher is all areas of classroom operations.
